Europeans Flocking To Tesla Over 7 Series And A8, How Long Can The S Class Hold On?

The Tesla all electric Model S has overtaken established and conventionally powered luxury car market leaders like the BMW 7 series and Audi A8 in their own European backyards, and is threatening the long-established market leader, the Mercedes S class.

That’s the view of pan-European newsletter Automotive Industry Data (AID), quoting its exclusive statistics.

In the first nine months of 2015, Tesla Model S sales of 10,600 in Western Europe exceeded the outgoing BMW 7 Series with 2,650 and the soon to be replaced Audi A8 limousine with 4,700. The Model S was only 800 sales short of the Mercedes S class, compared with a shortfall of 6,200 in the same period last year, AID said.

When the Europeans start getting reliability issues it will not take them long to return to BMW and Audi.

Funny thing is, Lexus LS is the one losing all the customers, not BMW and Audi.

Lexus Losing Sales To Tesla, Admits Lexus US Marketing VP

"But Smith doesn’t seem convinced that Model S buyers will stay loyal to the Tesla brand:

“I think the question remains to be seen how many people will buy a second Tesla.”

According to Smith, Lexus is probably losing some buyers to Tesla, but as he says:

“They’ll probably come back [to Lexus].” "

It's like, Lexus has no choice but to just assume the people will come back to them someday, when most likely no one will go back to Lexus lol

Meaning, reliability has nothing to do with this, as the Japanese are the ones losing all the customers for their reliable junk.

By the way, did you guys hear the news? Finally the Japanese government has acknowledged that radiation can indeed cause cancer, leukemia and such. This is the first time they are admitting it after 311.

--

Japan has acknowledged a possible first casualty from radiation at the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant — a worker who was diagnosed with cancer after the crisis broke out in 2011.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/japan-acknowledges-possible-fukushima-nuclear-radiation-casualty-n447596

--

This is a big news, because now the Japanese people have lost their faith in their own government, and practically all those radioactive cars in Japan being dangerous all proved to be "true" as well (Meaning the Russians who have been banning those radioactive Japanese cars were right)

Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, BMW and Audi will always be doing well because the U.S. and Europe always compete to be better. However, Japan's Lexus will keep losing more customers all because of the fact that they have radiation issues, not to mention Lexus LS is the most boring car in the segment.

Funny thing is Lexus is kicking GM/Caddi ass!

I would buy a radioactive Lexus over any POS GM death trap! On Obama Muslim UAW supporters like you buy GM.

Funny MOST TOYOTA AND LEXUS are build in the Americas. But Japan built is better still.

The operative word is "Europeans" What about the rest of the world? How do Tesla Model S sales compare to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class globally? They aren't even close.

Owning a Tesla S means you want the trendy, automotive bauble thing and once the trendiness wears off, so will the sales. Let's for a second agree that the Tesla S is attractive--I think it looks like a flabbed-up Fusion--getting the next generation Model S to has the same impact will be hard.

Mercedes does a good job--usually--with the S class making an impact. The S Class has nothing to worry about.

I thought you hated the S-class and thought it had a "saggy butt".

I do dislike its saggy but HOWEVER I would not spend $100K for something that looks like a fattened-up Fusion. The Tesla is repellent looking.

The S-Class definitely has nothing to worry about! I would also argue that the A8 and 7-Series have nothing to worry about either!

7-Series sales are obviously down because the model is being phased out and is two months away from being replaced with a new one. A8 sales are soft because (well A8 sales have always been soft) its nearing the end of its cycle as well.

I think if you did a focus group on Tesla buyers - the conclusion would be that are either (a) 'greenies' who are wealthy and who moved up from a Prius (remember all those Hollywood types who self-righteously drove Prius'?) or (b) they are mid-life crisis people who perhaps would have owned a Panamera, an M5, and an AMG Mercedes.

Although price points are similar, I would postulate that most Telsa buyers were not considering one of the "big" Germans.

Tesla has about a 3 year window - maybe not even that long - before its "exclusive" sales model comes under attack. Within that time - there will be competition - sold numerous dealer without set pricing (Ie - Competition) -and with lots of dealers that will be able to provide service. By then - Tesla s will have worn out its styling - will need to be replaced with a restyled model or it will loose its place as the "it" car. By then - the cars will be out of Warranty - Tesla will not have the money to continue their warranties - and the cost of long distance tows - and the resale value of the car will plummet.

It beat the outgoing 7 series. Usually the last MY before redesign takes a hit. I bet the 7, A8 and S stay in one piece long before the Model S falls apart.
