Paper Tiger Or Rabid Beast? Honda NSX Test Drive Reveals All

Paper Tiger Or Rabid Beast? Honda NSX Test Drive Reveals All

After the multiple concept cars and prototype spy shots and a complete reboot of the programme halfway through, Honda has finally produced a driveable new-generation NSX that you can buy. Or will be able to buy, once the car goes into production in the US next spring or thereabouts – as long as there are no more gremlins to sort out.

Our Honda NSX test car spent half of our two-day drive in northern California partially brain-fried by a limp-home mode triggered by the rev limiter. The distraught engineers corrected that problem and the rest of the time the NSX revealed itself to be a mid-engined track slayer very much in the Japanese bushido mode of quiet but swift competence. Honda has been out of the sports car arena for some time, so it’s good to see the company back in the game.

I'm sure it has many positive attributes but its styling looks old and generic for a car costing $150,000+.

Looks like Honda went for a dual-personality car, much like the original NSX: a daily driver and a true sports car all in one.

I does seem a bit heavy, but I love the way this thing looks, much better than the new R8

Article: "...Honda has finally produced a driveable new-generation NSX that you can buy..."

Really? Have they finally arrived in showrooms? Last I heard, we were still on the near-decade old Honda Hype Cycle.

Finally the radioactive Japanese supercar has come out. Do you guys know why GT-R is called Godzilla? Because Japan has this monster show called Godzilla and it has a lot to do with radiation, as that caused Godzilla to become huge. Kind of ironic, as the entire Japan including Tokyo now is suffering from radiation from Fukushima after 311 earthquake.

And I bet this NSX will be called a Mecha Godzilla or something lol

And I read all the things there and I can clearly tell this NSX will be far inferior to anything that comes out of Europe, and most likely wouldn't be any better than a Corvette, either.

NSX is way too overpriced, too simple, too Civic-like, too radioactive probably and too Japanese. It is just simply not very appealing because of those 5 reasons.

Exactly how did I get -5 in such a short period of time?

What, is it because I said something about Japan's radiation? Well, it's not me just saying crap. It's simply the truth, so don't blame me.

Very promising car but most reviews mention there is still more development work to be done before it's ready for prime time. Luckily they still have six months before it goes on sale.

You really think they can do anything in 6 months...? They need to be going into production by now for God's sake.

I've read about 4-5 reviews, and none said the car needs more development, that I recall. What they stated was that the Quiet and Sport modes were not sports-car like with understeer. However, Sport+ and, especially, Track modes were perfect for this car's sporting mission, eliminating understeer. This is exactly what the mission of making this car was, to build an every-day drivable car but one that also had the ability to go toe to toe with the best sports cars. The biggest true complaint is the standard tires vs. the optional tires. Again, everyday drivability and fuel economy vs. short-lived performance tires.

This NSX has nothing on the GT-R Nismo. Nice try Acura, try harder next time.

Just read where Honda/Acura marketing says "NSK is the car Porsche 911 owners will move up to"...if that isn't marketing spin I don't know what is. I admire Honda tremendously but until the enthusiasts mags crown you over a similar priced Porsche I'd not mention them again. Many have tried to dethrone Porsche but no one has yet.

It's funny how anyone can actually say something stupid like "Acura NSX is the car that Porsche 911 owners will move up to."

I mean, moving up? To Acura? That's like the biggest downgrade I've ever seen LOL

an acura will never have the cache of a Porsche but the NSX is special, rare and exotic. if anything the NSX will get more looks than a 911.
