NX Blockbuster Sales Poising Lexus To Seize US Luxury Sales Crown From BMW

Lexus has a real shot this year at taking back the U.S. luxury-auto sales title that it gave up in 2011, and the October sales numbers are likely to show it continuing to close in on BMW and Mercedes-Benz for the 2015 crown.

Mostly because of hot sales of its new NX 200t compact crossover, for the year to date through September Lexus trailed each of the German leaders by only about 2,500 vehicles, with more than 247,000 Lexus sales. BMW brand sales were 249,956 for the first nine months of the year, while the Mercedes-Benz brand was right there with 249,890 units.

That's great news for Lexus! Congratulations.

It's especially surprising for me because Lex's current styling is so frightfully ugly to *my* eyes. Obviously, lots and lots of people see things differently than I do (and that's not a bad thing).

As for BMW and Mercedes, I'm confident that their egos will be sufficiently bruised to inspire them to up their game in an attempt to reclaim the No.1 title, and this is good or consumers of all brands.

This is clearly a low price strategy to gain market share.

Yes LEXUS has been planning fire sales and throwing all the cash they can to get back the sales crown in the US. RCs for $459 a month? Very tempting indeed.

Well, I hate to say it, but I agree with USNA1999 here. When I was shopping for cars, Lexus was throwing some pretty incredible deals my way. The lease offers for the IS350 and GS350 were somewhat similar to the starting lease prices for the 435i and 535i (actually they were cheaper) BUT, the BMW's didn't come equipped with as much standard equipment, like navigation or M-package while the Lexus (Lexi?) came with navigation and F-Sport. Once both cars were optioned up, the monthly on the Lexus were almost half the BMW's (as a brand of comparison), AND, total down at signing was less expensive with Lexus. Similar comparisons could be made with the C/E.

Sorry - but YOUR headline is not true. Neither Lexus nor BMW have any lead in Luxury Vehicles - They may have a lead in small premium vehicles - But Lexus largely sells a Camry/Avalon based Sedan and Crossover - which are NOT true Luxury Vehicles - and BMW's forte is selling small Premium sports sedans - not Luxury vehicles as well.

When you get to real Luxury vehicles - worldwide - neither have significant sales. The 5-7 Series Bmw cars sell poorly - and the Gs/LS also sell in small numbers. It is only when Magazines define Luxury Vehicles by price that they even can be considered - but a true Luxury car is not what Bmw or Lexus excel at selling.

Could you define Luxury? Sounds like everybody has different meaning to it.

I guess the RAV4 will save LEXUS here in the US and I am hearing its doing wonders for worldwide sales. I guess people will buy crap just to have the badge.

Lexus about to dominate the North American market again? Nothing new to see here.
