Buyers Stand Behind VW As October Sales Hold On In Spite Of EPA Scandal
Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported sales of 30,387 units delivered in October 2015, a 0.24 percent increase over October 2014.

"We would like to again thank our customers for their patience and loyalty," said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. "Volkswagen is committed to making things right and actively working to restore trust."

The newly redesigned 2016 Passat is expected to hit showrooms by the end of the year. Pricing for the 2016 Volkswagen Passat starts at $22,440—the same as the outgoing base model when equipped with an automatic transmission. When new content is factored in, this represents a $1,315 value enhancement over the base 2015 Passat.

The Tiguan produced the best month on record for the vehicle with 4,815 vehicles delivered, a 167.1 percent increase.  Touareg also saw success in the SUV segment; the vehicles delivered 840 units, a 45.3 percent increase over October 2014.

That's substantial, considering VW makes about 20% of its sales from diesels, and most of those from the small (2.0 L or less) engines that are now banned because of dieselgate. VW is moving product largely due to their average 11% discounts (compared to the industry average of about 6%).

Yup, unit sales hold, but profit is smarting like a summabich.

And this dieselgate follows on the heels of about 2 years of lagging sales in the US, where VW has had the hardest time inspiring people to buy their products.

This is not comparable yet - we still need to know what they sold the cars for. I can keep my sales up by giving things away - and VW Dealers are offering quite competitive deals right now.

But - when you add to this - that the average car maker had major increases this past month (Over 10%)- VW actually suffered a loss of market penetration.
