Lexus Ready To Leapfrog The Segment With Holy Grail Satellite Broadband Access

Toyota is a brand better known for reliability than cutting edge anything, but that could change next year. Rather than hopping on the LTE bandwagon, Toyota is reportedly leapfrogging over the competition by introducing satellite broadband connectivity to its vehicles, according to one analyst.

At present, most cars connect to the Internet either through an occupant’s mobile device or an embedded SIM chip from a carrier such as Verizon or AT&T  But as pervasive as 4G LTE networks are becoming, connectivity can be slow at peak usage hours, and there are still parts of the country that are dead zones. Connectivity issues become magnified outside of the U.S. where cell towers are fewer and farther between. But satellite broadband could be the holy grail that fills all coverage gaps.

WTF—look at the disgusting mug on that thing above. Forget about satellite broadband; Toyota should concentrate more on making Lexus vehicles less of an eyesore for those of us who have to look at them. They get more frightening looking with every iteration.
