CAR WARS! Luxury SUV Edition — Who's Doing It Better? Cadillac XT5 vs. Lexus RX?
The world of luxury sport-utility vehicles got a little bit more crowded today with the launch of the Cadillac XT5. For Cadillac this is a big deal because the SRX...er...XT5 will represent a nice volume product for the brand.

Also, it helps usher in the "New York era" for the brand. Check out of its photos, which appear to be shot in New York City's über hip Soho district.

But, of course, this begs the question: How will it square up against the likes of the very real, all-new 2016 Lexus RX. The RX is an annual sales success that's held the space by the balls for years now. Can Cadillac get a bite of this very sweet pie?

To help figure this out, we're going to turn to you: In the luxury SUV wars, who's doing it better? The all-new Cadillac XT5 or the all-new Lexus RX?

Spies, discuss!

To *my* eyes, the Lexus is hideously ugly, but at least it's a Lexus, while the Caddy is just plain unattractive exterior (dimensions, proportions, styling), has a joke interior, and is...well, Cadillac.

I'd rather sit this round out.

Why such a sourpuss Steve? I don't think I've ever seen you post anything positive about any car. I don't understand why you spend so much time on this site if cars are something you seem to have a general distaste for.

runninglogan1 write "...I don't think I've ever seen you post anything positive about any car..."

That's because what you believe influences what you perceive. You focus on what is consistent with your beliefs, and filter out that which is too inconsistent with them. This characteristic is not specific to you. It's common to all humans.

If you had read ALL my posts, you'd clearly see your statement is untrue!

Two very different yet equally appealing designs. Lexus is taking an avant-garde approach with their new models and sales seem to show that lots of people like it. Count me in with that group.

The Cadillac is also modern but in a more classic way. Perhaps it will age better than the Lexus - only time will tell.

Both interiors look stylish and luxurious. No doubt we're looking at two big winners here.

RX side profile creases looks like a dress shirt ironed by a someone with cataracts.

The Lexus looks like it could easily be homologated for the Bosch ARC rally. The Caddy is just bland.

The Cadillac wins the styling wars hands down. Both have ugly interiors

This one is easy...I'd take the Cadillac over the RX any day of the week. Now with the current/prior gen, I would have taken the Lexus, but I can't state enough how ugly the new RX design is. The Cadillac design does not blow me away, but I would be ok driving around in it.

Based on the pictures, I'd go with the Caddy. However, I've found that in person examination can alter impressions. I'd have to see both to make an intelligent choice.

While neither is to my taste people vote with their hard earned dollars and based on sales its Lexus by a long shot.

The Caddy is clearly more attractive and I disagree w/Matt, the interior looks nice, especially the dash which is an improvement over the current SRX and CTS/ATS dash. I didn't expect to like the XT-5 as I think the SRX is goofy looking but is nice to drive. That said the RX is simply hideous... The XT-5 with the new engine line up is clearly a next step for Cadillac luxury. NOW, FIX YOUR DEALERS!!! They're MORONS and don't know anything about customer service!!!! You'll sell one car but not a second unless you fix this now. Great products and crappy, second rate service do not go hand in hand.

I don't like that HUGE snow plow of a grill on the Lexus, but it will be very reliable. On the other hand, GM's reliability.....never mind.

Based on styling alone I think the Caddy is just a more coherent design inside and out. It might be a toss up in terms of performance. But I'm not the target customer for either vehicle so don't ask which I'd rather own.

Cadillac, without even thinking. The Lexus looks downmarket and the interior looks like a throwback to the 90's. Cadillac exterior, while maybe a little less distinct and a bit Lincoln-ish, looks classier and its interior is one of the best ones I've seen in photos in a very long time.

The Cadillac is not in the same class as the Lexus. Lexus will triple the caddy in sales.

The Cadillac is good but not great looking inside and out. The Lexus is scary looking outside and has a strange 90's vibe inside. I don't doubt the Lexus will hold up better but for my money I'd get the Cadillac.

The LEXUS is way better looking than the Caddy, especially the blue one in the pictures. This RX looks way better than the LEXUS badged RAV4 (NX) which has sold huge numbers. This new RX will continue to lead this segment. I will wait a year until they start offering the $399 leases.

exterior i think the caddy looks better, interior, no question the lexus wins. reliability , resale value lexus is MUCH better than caddy. if i was leasing, and both cars were the same price i think its a pick-em. if I'm outright buying/ financing theres no question Lexus is the way to go.

Wouldnt really call this a luxury segment. My wife chose another CRV over the RX (thank god) because she it drove the same, felt the same and she likes the navigation better in the Honda. and save $12k. So, a glorified Toyota shouldn't be considered luxury.

A Honda CRV really! People make stupid car buying decisions every day and your wife just made one.....
