Adiós BMW, Audi, And Mercedes: Hyundai Prepares To Mop Up Your Luxury Segment With G90 Flagship

Hyundai Motor Co. has unveiled its first rendering of the Genesis G90, the flagship sedan for the world’s newest auto brand, previewing a design language dubbed “athletic elegance.”

The South Korean automaker announced plans for a new Genesis luxury brand just last week and conveyed the design for its first model Nov. 10 in Seoul.

The G90 will be the new brand’s range-topping model and a successor to the Hyundai Equus, which will be phased out.

I believe Hyundai will catch some customers with their new Luxury division... but it won't be Audi, BMW, and Mercedes shoppers. Likely not even Lexus shoppers. I believe it'll be an entirely new market segments, defined as buyers who set their sights on something above premium cars like Acura, but below the luxury brands named in this thread's title.

BTW, does Autospies choose argumentative titles to incite clicks or "no effin way" arguments? Some titles, like this one, are beyond ridiculous.

Well, 009 has been saying Audi, BMW and Mercedes should be scared over the last 3 years from Hyundai/Kia line up so I guess 2015 is the year that Hyundai/Kia mop up their pee. Either that or 009 is trying to get their advertisement contract.

Hey, I'm going to be honest...I like an underdog....especially in an industry where the market leaders assume they are so secure that no other fledgeling competition could ever compete with them. Hyundai is doing what I expected Acura to be attempting at this time. Acura should have been a "sport-luxury" brand respected just as much as BMW, Audi.

So, I say...good luck Genesis! The Vision G concept is pretty slick - it better have a V8 & AWD options when offered in the US.

Well, apparently, it looks more like a Genesis and CTS had a baby.

Talk about "flame wars" title. If Genesis has a great dealer service, pricing, reliability, etc. I think Maxima, Accord, Acura, and Infiniti may sweat it out. But Genesis needs RX/ES autos to keeps busy. Think about hitting some solid doubles before swinging for the fence.

Since they are not introducing them with new Dealerships as well - I believe that Genesis has already shown what can be sold. They will catch those who want a larger car - but won't spend Premium money levels - but the new Cadillac CT6 pricing is aggressive enough (And their dealers are too) to take the low end of the market. And IF - Buick's new LaCrosse looks a lot like the Avenir - it is priced lower than the genesis as well - it will take back the old folks from Lexus ES. Add in the new XT5 - which will give the RX a scare - and the next few years are going to be interesting - And we still do not know what the new Lincoln Continental will cost - if it is in the same price range as the current MKS - or even in the new CT6 - it will also be competition for the Genesis line.

I'll just sit back with my back of popcorn and watch what happens. I don't underestimate Hyundai but what they are doing many other brands before them have attempted... all with varying degrees of success.

222max.
The only thing they do is hire designer from Lambo ,Bentley and also Audi those guys fired from Audi previously so is evident how they know where are the power to move on and where is the real taste , so kudos for German talent not for Korean copy and paste team.

Def wouldn't say "Adios" to the big 3, they are here to stay. Looks nice. This one is for the person who wants a nice sedan and doesn't want to spend the big money.

There is a virtually unveiled version of the G90 out there. I love how National Enquirer Agent009 can be. Genesis has an excellent chance for success. The VW scandal puts Audi at risk..as if Audi's unreliability was not enough now they face "untruth in engineering" as their motto. Jaguar is sputtering in the USA. Cadillac is precarious. Lincoln is a maybe. Priced right the Genesis brand will make inroads. Will it topple Mercedes and BMW? NOPE! The feeding frenzy will be at Audi when they have to discount to Genesis-level pricing to stave off implosion.

Genesis needed to be a brand from day one.

This is the car that people will buy when the loyal Lexus, Infiniti and Acura customers find out that Japan has Fukushima radiation issues.

This can't really scare any brand from Europe and the U.S., but it certainly will do well against Lexus, Infiniti and Acura.

When Hyundai learns about the care and feeding of a luxury car customer give me a heads up. Until then, all this is is a nice looking vehicle. Even Ford makes several of them.

They are trying several years and they can't , now they just hired a designer from Lambo and Bentley fired for Audi to make this design , they also have other design from Audi , so is clear they need to get from German source to create something interesting , but there is another detail , IDENTITY , they can't do anything about that Mercedes always will be Mercedes as BMW and also Audi , Angelina Jolie , Brad and Glenn Close , Meryl Street , Frank Sinatra , they are unique there is not comparison , and Korean cars has lack of history and heritage they can't put in the dealer and old model photo in the wall they don't have anything to be proud , they can't show any previous model in any places because they are just abominations and desperate copy from German together , sorry , but check when you drive in the street for Koreans models cars two or four years old , there is nothing just crap .
Three Big Germans invest millions in development , design , technology , safety , the others just wait to copy and save and make their cheap creation to sale.

Agent009 must work for the Irrational Inquirer. I plan to get my hands on a G90. Several friends have the Genesis and love it. My time in a K900 was wonderful. This is good stuff.
