Will Hyundai End Up Taking The Spot Cadillac And Lincoln Are Fighting For?
If I were to describe to you how the automotive industry is right now, I'd probably articulate that it's somewhat like a World War II dog fight. Of course there isn't a real battle, there is an aggressive fight or market share being waged right now.

Sure it's happening between the Detroit Three and the German automakers. And, it's also going on between the likes of the "B" team — Cadillac, Lincoln and Hyundai.

We've been keeping an eye on our Korean friends' products and we have to say we've been impressed. For a company that used to produce tin junk, it has really turned things around. Need some proof points? Check out the Elantra, Sonata and the new Genesis. They're all quite good and in some cases, downright amazing.

In addition, buyers have noticed. Hyundai has reported significant sales growth and reviewers have been positive on the marque. Cadillac and Lincoln, however, has been relatively stagnant.

So, we have to ask: Will Hyundai wind up taking the spot that Cadillac and Lincoln are fighting for in the automotive race for survival?

Hyundai can't honestly do much against Cadillac and Lincoln, as Caddy and Lincoln both have the best flagship models, called Escalade and Navigator. If you look at the sales figure of those two models, you can tell they sell a lot, not to mention the Escalade and Navigator both are like status symbols in the U.S. and many other countries. (And also in Japan as well, I've noticed there were a lot of Japanese celebrities driving the Escalade)

But Lexus, Acura and Infiniti? Hyundai should have absolutely no problem against those Japanese "luxury" brands, as they are nothing but overpriced Toyota, overpriced Honda and overpriced Nissan. Not to mention Infiniti and Acura do not even exist in most countries in the world (And Infiniti and Acura are just Nissan and Honda in Japan).

The Asian brands can never dream to compete with the status symbols from the U.S. and Europe, but they can compete to become the affordable, reliable, pseudo-luxury brands. It's kind of like, Made in China cheap fake Rolex. That's what Lexus, Infiniti, Acura and Genesis really are and all that they can ever be.

And also, I think Hyundai should have no problem as long as they let more people know about the Japanese radiation issue in Japan.

Is Fukushima Godzilla? Why 38 million Tokyo residents are at risk.

Zhuravichi Children’s Home is another institution, among many, for the Chernobyl-stricken: “The home is hidden deep in the countryside and, even today, the majority of people in Belarus are not aware of the existence of such institutions” (Source: Chernobyl Children’s Project-UK).

One million (1,000,000) is a lot of dead people. But, how many more will die? Approximately seven million (7,000,000) people in the Chernobyl vicinity were hit with one of the most potent exposures to radiation in the history of the Atomic Age.

The exclusion zone around Chernobyl is known as “Death Valley.” It has been increased from 30 to 70 square kilometres. No humans will ever be able to live in the zone again. It is a permanent “dead zone.”

...

Fukushima is literally a time bomb in quiescence. Another powerful quake and all hell could break loose. Also, it is not even close to being under control. Rather, it is totally out of control. According to Dr. Caldicott, “It’s still possible that Tokyo may have to be evacuated, depending upon how things go.” Imagine that!

Nuclear Experts: Million cancers could result from Fukushima — Already hundreds of times more thyroid cancers… “Just the tip of the iceberg… worst is yet to come” — “Enormous spikes in cancer… devastating health effects”

Nov 4, 2015: “It’s been almost 5 years from the Fukushima Daiichi meltdowns, and the news from Japan is still not good. Two reports recently released in Japan, one by Japanese medical professionals and the second from Tokyo Power Corporation – TEPCO – acknowledged that there will be numerous cancers in Japan, much greater than normal, due to the radioactive discharges from the triple meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi… I believe, as do many of my colleagues, that there will be at least 100,000 and as many as one million more cancers in Japan’s future as a result of this meltdown… [T]he second report received from Japan proves that the incidence of thyroid cancer is approximately 230 times higher than normal in Fukushima Prefecture… So what’s the bottom line? The cancers already occurring in Japan are just the tip of the iceberg. I’m sorry to say that the worst is yet to come.”

Caddi and Lincoln are the "F" team! Only people that drive these POS are old church people, pimps, UAW , Obama , gangbangers, trailer trash, and GMCadillac!

They don't care if their death traps pos pollute the earth with diesel fumes and kill billions of people. We should let inmates on death roll drive GM death traps around the prison yard...and watch them catch on fire!

I'd Buy a Hyundai before I'd my a Caddi any day! Just to piss off all those GM fans who drive around Tarp vehicles..or Obama Motors=GM!

It doesn't really matter what you say, James. There are far more celebrities in the U.S., Japan and all around the world who see Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator as the real status symbols, when practically no one cares about Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and Hyundai.

I understand that you prefer Asian cars that are radioactive and lack personality and sex appeal. It is most likely coming from you having low self esteem, as there are indeed people who would rather be considered as "trash" by the society like how the Asian brands are seen as one.

But 99% of the world prefer the status symbols from the U.S. and Europe that are "not" radioactive and actually are the top class in the entire world.

Ultimately, your opinion does not matter at all. What I am stating is merely a fact.

And another strategy that Hyundai could come up with for their Genesis brand is a flagship SUV.

Right now, Lexus' flagship SUV LX is pretty much forgotten, no one pretty much knows about this car, and I have seen no celebrity who owns this. Not to mention this Lexus flagship model is not even considered a status symbol by anyone.

Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator sell a lot more. Heck, even Infiniti QX80 is doing better than Lexus LX.

So in this case, is Lexus even a "legit" luxury brand? Not even close. It's just an overpriced Toyota that has ES and RX as the best sellers and nothing else.

Hyundai can make some of the most reliable, and affordable SUVs like Santa Fe, so they should have no problem taking on the LX. After all, LX sells less than 5000 units every year which is laughable, so I don't see how Hyundai can not take on Lexus in this field.

Oh, and also I don't think Hyundai would have much of problem taking on the LS as well.

The Japanese and the Korean brands can never be "The Real" Rolex, but they can be "The Best Made in China Fake" Rolex. I'm sure of it. And I'm sure most people would agree.

I guess to be a true luxury brand...you need Kim Kardasshian to own one...She needs a big SUV for her big ass and her husband BIG mouth to fit in! And her publicity whorish family also. Yes..a Cadi Suv would be perfect for her and trashy fans like yourself.

Yes..i look to the Kardasshian as reference to everything that is wrong about the world...and them driving a honking trailer trash death trap polluting pos like a Escalade is fitting for their trashy whorish persona.

Unfortunately, James. Kim Kardashian is not the only person I am talking about.

I have stated, the "celebrities of the world".

Let me ask you, how is it a "luxury" brand, if it was affordable, anonymous, lacking sex appeal and personality and just being a clone of something that has absolutely no heritage? And on top of that, being boring? Do you call that a "luxury" brand? What kind of a luxury brand is it, when no one wishes to have it?

If you think Kim Kardashian driving Escalade is a problem,

then I'm sorry, James. I can see you love Lexus because you are most likely a sissy one as Lexus LFA is heavily loved by Paris Hilton.

It's funny, Paris Hilton is the only celebrity I have seen, that actually really loves Lexus LFA. She even said that is her favorite car.

Happy now, James? ;)

THe word is "Premium" Brand - not Luxury brand. There are few manufacturers that specialize solely in luxury cars - most seem to specialize in small sports sedans (European)- or small to mid size SUVs (Lexus) - and converted lesser cars - like the ES.

Mercedes does make a Luxury car as parts of its stable - the S-Class - but only Bentley and Rolls really make full lines of Luxury Vehicles (And even Bentley could be accused of making smaller performance ones).

I Agree with Matt that the Continental will sell like hotcakes. And looking at the price - the new CT6 will also sell pretty well since it is in the E/5/6-class price range now. While there will be some who will look at a Hyundai Luxury car - if the prices are lower - and the dealers deal on them - but they are not true Cadillac and Lincoln customers. AND people also buy these cars because they are from an AMERICAN company - Korea does not get a "plus" for Luxury.

However - there is a space - where there is a potential for Hyundai - the full size Buick/Lexus LS customer - who is looking to replace their old Full size car with something with enough internal room. While these may be older folks - the market is moving towards older buyers anyway - since they are the ones who can actually afford to buy new cars today.

Simply put,

Made in China = Low Quality

Made in Korea = Anonymous, just a bunch of clones of American & European products

Made in Japan = Boring. Bland. Just radioactive garbage.

Am I being racist? No. I lived in Asia for a while, and I have asked a lot of Asians about what they think about their own products. And pretty much, they agree with my opinion. Why do you think the European & American brands are considered as the "status symbols", when pretty much their own Asian stuff is considered as "inferior" by their own? And I am not even talking about just cars here, I am pretty much talking about all the European & American luxury brands in general.

Anyway, I hope Hyundai will do well and I'm sure they will do well against Lexus, Infiniti and Acura.

I want what? I have an Infiniti FX, and am planning to have a Lexus LX next year or so. It's not like I "only" buy cars from GM.

You are only just acting childish (Or maybe you are still not really that old enough to drive a car) on this website because of my "name" here, and it's funny,

I am only here stating facts that are backed by the majority of people, but you think I am only supporting GM or something. Did I mainly only support GM on this website? I did not. But you are too dumb to see it anyway.

But in the end, you know you feel jealous when you see people driving Bugatti, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley, Pagani, Escalade, Navigator and such when you are driving your Toyota Prius or Lexus IS.

I merely drive Infiniti FX because it was pretty cheap for me and it's pretty reliable. And I'm interested in LX, because I need a good off-roading vehicle that is reliable. And I am not getting it because it is a "status symbol", because it isn't. No one sees it as one anyway. And I mainly use my Escalade for parties.

I just don't think you know me that well. First of all, it is NOT me saying the Asian brands can never be the status symbols. That is just merely a fact, and you think I am dissing the Asian brands or something.

But then again, you are not one of the smart ones on this website, so I don't blame you.

anyway, huyundai can take over honda, toyota, nissan since its in their category although still trying to establish themselves as a reliable alternative. while the equus and genesis are great looking cars, i can't imagine someone looking for a premium brand choosing those cars over a cadillac or even lincoln.

Lincoln and Cadillac are not fighting for the same spot is the first reason the headline is stupid. Cadillac is trying--ineffectively--to be an American Mercedes whereas Lincoln is going back to being Lincoln i.e. premium American luxury.

Where Genesis has the greatest chance is to Jaguar out of the market. Jaguar's US sales for a year are a fraction of what Mercedes sells in a month. The XE is taking FOREVER to come and is Camry bland and while the F Face is ok looking, it will need to be value priced to buy market share which is something Jaguar does not understand.

Maserati is also in a precarious position and long delayed return of Alfa Romeo is numbing its chances of making a splash.

Acura is selling Japanese Mercurys so they have a long way to go to be considered premium.

With Audi no longer standing for "truth in engineering" they are vulnerable...probably more from Mercedes.

Genesis can easily carve a place for itself.

Of the two I think Lincoln is most vulnerable, in addition to Volvo and Infiniti. I don't get a sense that there's a huge amount of loyalty with those brands. Cadillac is aiming a different direction. Acura has a very strong loyal customer base, as long as they offer good products. Mercedes and BMW have nothing to worry about except the hype that sources like Autospies will fabricate. Of the luxury leaders, Lexus might be in the most precarious position.

GMCadillac's disdain for Lexus by linking Cadillac with the German big 3 luxury makers remind me of the school's losers. They hate the nerdy but smart geeks so they associate themselves with the jocks, try out cigarettes and do dumb rebellious stuff, only to be ditched by both the jocks and the geeks at the end of the day. GMCadillac, your Cadillac is a loser to both the German makes and the Fukushima radiation infested makes, period. In terms of world-wide prestige they're not even close to MB and BMW. In terms of sales, they've been losing to the Japanese radiation infested cars, on USA's own soil. But you need not worry, Cadillac's SUVs compete quite well with Hyundai/Kia.

Your comments are baseless and should have been better thought out before you posted. Your analogy doesn't apply to Cadillac. Cadillac's products are the best they've built and engineered in recent history and they're competitive with the Germans...do you read automotive press? And, what do you know about world prestige? How many countries have you been to and experienced how Cadillac is perceived there? Finally, no Cadillac SUV competes with ANY Hyundai/Kia or of the sort. Period. My point: know your "stuff" before you start talking "stuff."

I hadn't realized Hyundai could even take on Chevy and Buick yet and they think they can beat Cadillac? How many Genesis' vs Cadillacs are sold each month? I guess if Autospies says so, Cadillac has just been put on notice by Steoul.

GM probably sells more Escalades in a month than South Korea sells $50k vehicles in a year.
