Would You Buy One? GM Considers Chinese Import To Shore Up SUV Line Up

General Motors Co. is still considering importing the Buick Envision midsize SUV to the U.S. from China as it weighs the public backlash it may face, according to a source familiar with the automaker’s product plans.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that GM plans early next year to begin selling the midsize Envision in the U.S., sourced from China.

Buick spokeswoman Kelly Cusinato said in an email Thursday that the brand would not “comment on product speculation.”

People buy car built in all sorts of places - some of which they would never guess by the make. Mercedes has a huge plant in Mexico (as do lots of other companies) - Many Ford models are made in Canada - as well as some Gm models.
That is because the parts are made ALL OVER THE WORLD - and these are simply assembly plants. SO - today - what matters is the final product - and whether it meets quality requirements.

While I would prefer that Gm make the cars in the USA - I have adjusted to the reality that GM is a worldwide company - as is FORD - and the days of the ALL-American car car - even Tesla - are LONG gone. Even cars assembled in the USA - and Germany - have plenty of parts from outside those countries, including China. For years - Mercedes used GM air conditioner compressors - Bmw and Rolls Royce used GM Auto transmissions.

Typing this on my US branded Chinese assembled laptop while my Chinese Apple iPhone sits next to me. Yes I would buy a Chinese assembled vehicle where the parts come from all over the world. Warrantied by a company that has a dealer in my town. US folks need to understand that they now live in a global economy and great products can be made anywhere ... even China.

Bottom line: is it a good vehicle. If so, it will deaden anti-Chinese bigotry.

Having experience in supply chain internationally, I can attest to China's ability to manufacture high quality products. However, what you're missing is the fact that these manufacturing locations are almost exclusively managed by Americans or Europeans to ensure products are compliant to ASME/ISO, etc. standards. Even the Chinese don't like chinese equipment, so they import equipment from Europe and Japan.

I wouldn't buy anything from GM..even if it was made in heaven! GM is a criminal organization out to kill and rob their customers! Its in their DNA...old or new GM...still the same murderous organization!

But we buy things like Apple Iphone and tablets, Gaxlaxy,Big Screens, other electronics made in China and Mexico. I would buy a Benz or Lexus made in China...why NOT!

It will be be better than a Drunk Dope-up UAW backed by a socialist prez like Mohammed Hussein Barack Obama and Murdering GM execs.
