Why are they going to a larger screen? They cannot enable video playback in the u.s.----maybe for europe? Possibly have persistent climate info while in nav mode? That would be a nice feature.

I want a large screen too. When is it coming out???

I think that Lexus does have DVD playback right? The only trick is that the car has to be in Park and the parking brake has to be engaged.

For me this is very exciting news, I have a 2004 LX470 and its the best, most reliable comfortable vehicle I have ever been fortunate enough to own [including BMW, Mercedes, Rover] - however the current LX is way over-due for an update.

I would definantly buy an LX over an Escalade reguardless of interior. There was an Escalade at my Toyota dealership (I take my Lexus there to get it's oil changed) and next to it was a Land Cruiser and the Land Cruiser was so much more comfortable, and it isn't even a Lexus. Cadillacs aren't comfortable or stylish at all. I hate how the nose and rear of the car are pointed.

The Escalade is a far superior car, engineering-wise at least. I love the LX, but it's fallen behind the times terribly. The recent '05 update has kept it semi-up-to-date, but the engine is so old tech that it's laughable. Mercedes only needs 3.5 liters to come up with 270hp, and in a 3.5 liter engine, Lexus itself makes more than 270hp! The Escalade, although with a significantly larger engine, delivers a superb 403hp and actually has acceptable mpg.

If you forget Lexus has a 3.5 liter that also makes 270 hp in the RX350. The 4.7 liter unit in the LX470 is used across the Toyota/Lexus lineup. It has been reguarded as one of the smoothest and refined engines of its time.

As time passes more and more lexus owners are losing thier sight. Lexus is a smart company. How else is an 80 year old man/woman going to see? Bigger screens. Duh.

I've sat in the LS460- the screen is very similar to this one.

I think it's safe to say that with an SUV the size of an LX 470, they aren't necessarily looking for high horsepower, they're looking for high torque. That's how it is with all full-size SUVs, they need the torque for pulling power.

bmws 4.4 x5 has more torque and power than the LX.
the 3.0 diesel x5 has more torque too (49 lb/ft more) and 17 less hp.
also the engine only meets eu 3 standards (we are now on eu 4), and has shockingly high CO2 emissions (387 g/km), more than the 4.2 supercharged range rover, a far faster car (4 seconds faster, and in a car that is also heavier!) with 165 bhp MORE!.
it is a very inefficient engine.

Ditto. I was also saying that Lexus makes much better engines than this 4.7L if you noticed (I didn't only use Mercedes as an example).

Toyota's new Tundra is said to have somewhere around a 5.8 liter V8, which will probably carry over to the Land Cruiser and the LX. But, it is true, the current LX generation has been around way too long. They still look good though.

the 5.8 wouldn't be the only engine, they wouldn't sell any in europe. hopefully a nice new diesel and perhaps a 3.5 v6? a lexus suv isn't exactly supposed to be a rocket anyway is it?

But they also need torque for towing and hauling. 3.5 liters won't pull a trailer. Power isn't everything, at least not in a truck or SUV.
