49ers Running Back Reggie Bush Puts Family First With Bentley Flying Spur For Mom's 50th Anniversary

Reggie Bush’s NFL career may be filled with ups and downs, and even some controversies, but it’s safe to say that, when it comes to his private life, nothing is more important than family. The famed footballer must have caused quite the reaction to his mother when he showed up with a $200,000+ luxury sedan at the door as a present for her 50th birthday.

The four-door version of the Bentley Continental GT coupe is a symbol of class and high style. Every little piece of this car shouts opulence, and that is exactly what famous people like about life.

I used to think that way, too: If I ever get rich. I'm gonna buy my siblings a multi-millionaire's car, like a Bentley (I like the GTC a lot, BTW).

Then it dawned on me: Someone who earns $50K/year and lives in a $250,000 house doesn't know anything about owning a $300,000 car. I'd likely be on the hook for paying for insurance, maintenance, and repairs. If someone dings their car at Walmart, will I choose to leave it dented, or will I pay for the fix, because my siblings certainly won't feel good about paying $5,000 for the repairs. And what about my siblings' peers and co-workers, some of which will become ugly and snarky because a co-worker at a middle-class employer pulls up to work in a Bentley?

I finally concluded it would be best for me just to give them the $300,000 cash and let them decide how they want to spend it, and let THEM handle the consequences of their decisions.

Also, I can't help but think of that saying: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Many millionaires and billionaires know that what made them who they are, is figuring out how to become who they wanted to be, and that usually doesn't happen when someone hands you a free lifetime pass. Even billionaire Bill Gates disclosed in an interview that he's taken care of his kids' college tuition and lifetime health care; aside from that, they'll have to create the future they want for themselves.

Happy Bentley, folks. I truly hope it brings you nothing but joy.

@TheSteve I have five siblings and only one earns more than I do a year and the remaining 3 earn considerably less than either of us and what you say about income disparity is quite true.

These athletes, especially footballers, need to realize that their playing careers are very short, and they have about 40 to 50 years to live after retirement in their thirties. is it any wonder why most of them go broke a few years after retirement?

autopal: Sad, but true! Ditto for musicians that make it financially. That's because learning how to earn "big" money, and to permanently increase one's lifestyle, is a skill (e.g., every successful entrepreneur). The majority of people who "luck out," like lottery winners, sports stars, and music stars, have a sudden and quick flash of cash, and *not* recurring revenue. And because they have no experience at handling large sums of money (e.g., skills in investing, living within your means, and understanding the difference between revenue, profit, and assets), they go broke within a matter of years after the big income tap runs dry, be that lottery, sports career, or rap artist contract.

If Reggie Bush bought his mom a "leftover" 2015 - most Bentley dealers would have given him $50,000 off sticker on a Flying Spur. Those are like doorstops in the Bentley dealerships.

She'll like it until the 3 year warranty runs out! Yes Bentley has the warranty of its brand-sister, Volkswagen!

I wonder, do plastic interior parts fall off and litter the footwells like other Volkswagon's?

Actually in terms of routine maintenance the Bentley compares comparably with an Audience A8 or a VW Phantom W12. Not super cheap, but not as bad as you would initially think.

You guys sound like a bunch of f'n haters. It's his mom...sounds like a great gift to me. He will pay for maintenance and he put a smile on her face. What's better than making your mom happy?

The use of common sense. This is 100% about overcompensating with money what is lacking in his past because he feels ashamed of it. Typical poverty-to-riches response.

Most of the comments here deriding Reggie Bush for purchasing his mother a Bentley are nothing but jealous whites displaying their true colors.

Common sense tells us that we do what we want with our money. Including making ourselves and those around us happy.
