Reviewers retinas get detached during Lexus GS450h review?

Ugly in white.

Odd title.

I would just get this car in black if I had to, but I much preferred the last GS's more proportioned look without all the fussy lines.

Why dont they criticize the LS600H and accidently call it a Maybach 57s

yes, really saves a lot of gas. 1 MPG is so worth another 10K!

If you really think about it, it has power like a V8, but gets high twenties in gas mileage. I'm pretty sure it's more than one mpg difference.

A Jaguar XJ8 gets an average of 27mpg according to most owners, which is better than this. It offers ample acceleration, style that is undeniably charming, and even more luxury.

It's not really much more than a 2mpg difference in this thing. But you also get more power, so the only trade-off with not getting a 430 or 460 is not hearing a V8 exhaust note.

Fussy lines aplenty on this car, Will. Window line is contrived, it has a fairly pronounced Bangle butt, and looks odd from most angles because of its lumpy body shape.

And it also has pretty generic light clusters. Could've come from a Camry Sport or something.

is it me, or lexus is getting better and better...

by the way, my first car was sc400. I'm a lexus fan too.

i didnt belive this had the power of a 4.5L V8, i was skeptical, especially since it wasnt listed in the article. edmunds says it has 340 HP. they could have easily tuned this for better fuel economy but the main idea was not to pinch pennys at the pump. it was tuned for performince which obviously took a toll on highly expected hybrid fuel savings. good job lexus, but if your gonna go with the large chrome strip, it should have accents elswhere like mirrors or wheelwells. i think it should be left off altogether tho on this car.

will, the audi's grill isn't fussy. infact the audi has the cleanest shape and details in its class. (like matching headlights and lower grills, square angles, smooth sides)
the gs is (unfortunatley) a mish-mash of various shapes (trying to couple long bonnet/short boot with big doors and egg-like shape, along with the lights and beaky nose, the worst things on this car) results in a bad looking car. hopefully when they facelift it, it will look better.
as a car it is very good (quiet, comfortable, effortless, it's an attractive proposition, no pun intended), but like the 5 series, its looks put me off.
i'm not a designer, so i don't know how they could improve it, but the grill and lights seem to be trouble spots. in profile Will, i finally see what you mean. it looks quite good. but the front and rear 3/4.....

You're not really correct. The GS450H gets 25 city, 28 highway. The GS430 (which is what it should be compared to) gets 18 city, 25 highway. It also develops 80% fewer emissions, so your kids will still have an earth to live on after were gone. Thats a little better than the 1 mpg diff you seem to believe is the number.

When the GS first showed up in pictures (the current model), I thought it was stunning. Then I saw it in person. And my hopes for it being a revolutionary lux-sport car for Lexus were shattered. The interior is generic and uninspiring at best, good quality or not. And yes, I've sat in quite a few. The GS may not have molding on the side or character lines, but the way it is shaped is very awkward for a midsize sedan. It would look better as a coupe.

However, I used to own an A6 and ('00 A6 2.7T quattro). It was perfectly simple and handsome. I thought the current one was a different league altogether- it never fails to catch my eye, even if it's been out for two years. The A6's body, along with the A8's, may be the best platform for the grille that Audi has ever had. The GS is just ugly IMHO. Lexus isn't experienced enough to design a truly beautiful car; they never have, and it will be awhile. The A6 looks both sport and elegant; it reminds me of an Aston Martin for some reason. I can't believe you're calling the A6 whale-ish! The GS is the most bloated car this side of an R-Class!

I don't go into Mercedes or BMW articles and start calling them bad cars. I defend Lexus in the Lexus themed articles by pointing out the facts, that Lexus is better than German cars. And don't go off on me how German cars are better than Lexus. You have no proof. I don't care about top speed, so other than that, you have no way to defend your German cars.

lexuses are good cars. they are not amazing fantastic cars.
an rs4 or m3 is an amazing fantastic car. lexus simply doesn't have enough models to be a true competitor.
i don't care about reliability, so you have no way to defend lexus.
seriously, lose the reliability, and a merc is better. lose the price and they're all better.

Lexus is better aside the reliability with luxury features, looks, and, while not as much, performance. BMW, Audi, and Mercedes are all jumping on out-performing each other and Lexus is sticking to what it was meant to do, make a top quality luxury car. No a high performance vehicle to go 0-60 in 3 seconds, but to be a well-powered luxury car. Lexus has succeded at what it was meant to do and they are continuing to raise the bar for competition. Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are trying to be fast and have lost sight in making luxury cars. Lexus is the only one who is incorperating luxury and performance to the reasonable level, which German cars don't do anymore.
