Infiniti Toying With Taking The Q50 Eau Rouge Out Of Moth Balls - Hasn't That Ship Already Sailed?
We were saddened when Infiniti announced that the GT-R powered Q50 Eau Rouge project was scrapped, but apparently, there maybe some hope for it.

The reason why the Japanese car manufacturer abandoned the project – at that time – was due to costs, as the performance-oriented model would’ve been too expensive to build. Moreover, the all-wheel-drive, twin-turbocharged automobile’s potential pricey sticker wouldn’t have coped with the performance per buck offered by its rivals – and BMW’s and Mercedes’ offerings don’t come cheap.

Infiniti is a brand that does not know where its going so any road will get it there. Its circling back on itself because it doesn't know which road to take. Ask consumers what BMW (ultimate driving machine) or Mercedes (nothing but the best)stands for you get the same answer more often than not. Ask someone what Infiniti cars stand for and you likely get no answer at all or an infinite number of answers none the same.

Seriously, you guys are defining an entire car company by a motto? C'mon let's be realistic. BMW, Mercedes and Audi have a strong consistent history. Not a good motto. That is why they are successful. Do you know how many cars Audi had on US soil when they first began selling cars here? One. Do you know how many cars they were selling on US soil when they were ran out to the brake debacle? The same One. If that were Infiniti they would not be around today because Infiniti's history is an American one. They did not have a strong base in another country to fall back on like Audi.

Luxury cars implement two factors into their cars. Luxury and Performance. Some put more of an emphasis on one that the other, but they try to be strong on both fronts. Infiniti's direction has always been performance 1st. Whether you believe they have done that well as the Germans is your opinion, but that has been their direction with the exception of a few cars when they were trying to increase profits. They know exactly where they want to go. They lack the prestige of those other car companies. That is what hurts them.

curriescorner.....prestige has very little to do with anything. Today's generation wouldn't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

MARKETING......this is the sole reason why any of the "premium 4" still produce month over month sales increases, with the occasional drop of course. BMW is a marketing power house. They hardly use their milk-toast versions of their cars in their advertisements unlike the others. They exploit the uninformed viewer and once they're in the dealership, selling a 320i is like selling candy to a kid when you give them a 335i to blow the wheels off of. Of course there's sticker shock when they see what the price of any 335i resulting in a lesser option.

Infiniti screwed themselves when they rebadged the entire line-up. To add insult to injury, they threw the v8 option out for the qx70(fx) because 'it didn't sell.' They literally had the only Japanese equivalent to an x6 xdrive 50i and their marketing department failed to captivate the viewer.

While Infiniti has little motoring history, they could have leveraged Nissan's racing heritage, but instead decided to go it alone. Even Mazda was ballsy enough to use the 787B in advertisements when everyone knew it was all bullshit, but it sold the rotary engined RX8. And the RX8 was a total failure of a car yet it has a rabid following.

Don't tell me it's because they lack prestige. Their marketing sucks to this day, and yet the product is actually respectable. I'd consider an M or whatever the fk it's called, but until they start jamming their product down the consumer's throat, they might as well be Suzuki.

Mercedes is "The best or nothing" unless you live somewhere in the world where they decided to change it.

The Infiniti Eau d merde needs to die. Making a $100K product that looks like your $45K product that you sell for $35K is NOT the path to success.

In addition to crossovers, do a CLS coupesedan fighter with gorgeous styling and call it the Infiniti Zen. Then follow that with an "E Class" sedan named Skyline. Finally, do an Infiniti Dangan (V8, RWD, 2-place coupe) with Corvette pricing.

Give the products names that loosely or directly suggest Japanese heritage and they would be on their way.

Infiniti totally dropped the ball on taking advantage of having the FX/QX70 on the streets while the X6/X4 & GLC were basically taking shape.

I owned an FX45 V8 & was completely dumbfounded to learn that Infiniti decided to drop the V8 QX70 at a time when I could compete with newer competition.

They also dropped the ball with the Eau Rouge as well. It was a "no-brainer" concept for a vehicle that size...again considering today's competiton from Lexus, BMW, M-B, Audi, Cadillac. Both the QX50 & QX80 shouldve been some hot sedans today using Infiniti's luxury sport quarkiness.
