Based On DESIGN Alone, WHICH BMW M Car Strikes YOUR Fancy? The 1M Or All-New M2?
For me, if there's one BMW M car that I must have before I check out, it's the 2011 1M. To this day, the driving experience haunts me.

Everything about it, from the clutch/shifter combination to the way it handled uneven tarmac to the exhaust note was perfect. It's tough for me to say that too. Hardly ever does a manufacturer get it so right.

There's just one thing, though. The all-new BMW M2 is here and if I am honest, it's already sounding like one helluva product. This is no surprise though considering it's following the illustrious 1M.

BMW had no choice but to build something stellar.

But, with all things, we do care about design and not just the driving experience. While the 1M was a hoot it did feature some rather goofy, Teutonic styling with that bulbous roofline and rather large headlilght treatment. Being that the M2 is quite a bit more streamlined, we wanted to ask: Based on DESIGN alone, which M car would you rather? The  1M or the M2?

I don't understand the purpose of the 1/2 coupes. They are not dramatically more affordable than the 3/4 Series, but they are severely compromised by comparison. I'd have done the new 2 coupe as a fastback. Overall though the design is just BORING.

Which M car strikes my fancy? Umm, how about the M-None?

Maybe it's my biscuits-and-gravy upbringing but even though I can afford an "M" or an "AMG", they just don't pencil out as being worth the price.

The M3 is and always will be the 'M car' for me. All others are just derivatives of the M3.

the 1M is FAR more entertaining to drive than an E9X M3. I have driven both several times and there is no comparison. The only person who says that is someone who hasn't driven a 1M.

I have not driven either car but feel some resistance to both of them actually, not feeling their lines/design as much as the bigger 3 or 4 series and even those are not that inspiring anymore to me.

M235 is probably the better deal

I like the M2 better. The 1M had that sows belly and bug eyes that always looked awkward to me, so from an exterior design standpoint I think the M2 is much better. Interior wise I like the steering wheel better on the M2, hate the stupid iPad that sticks out of the dash all the time, 1M had one that would retract when you did not need it, so on the interior maybe a draw from what I have seen so far.

the 1M is a total legend. There is no equal. the only other BMW that even compares is the E30 M3. I have driven the 1M and it is unbelievable. if i could own any car in any price range, even supercars, i would have the 1M it's just that good.
