Toyota Cuts New Prius Sales Projections As Gas Prices Tumble
Toyota Motor Corp. lowered its global sales target for the new Prius gasoline-electric hybrid, as low fuel prices reduce demand for fuel-efficient cars.

The fourth-generation Prius, which went on sale in Japan today, will launch early next year in Europe and the U.S.

Toyota now targets average global annual sales of 300,000 to 350,000, the lower end of the 300,000 to 400,000 annual sales target for the previous model.

Don't get sucked into the sick liberal scam of 'taxing' companies to transfer money from the 'rich' to the greedy liberals. BTW, companies don't pay taxes since they just pass along the tax to YOU!

Fact: How did Al Gore suddenly become a multi, multi millionaire? By stealing tax credits from corporate victims.

skytop, I can't make sense of what you're saying in relation to my post.

My comment was that "save the planet" consumers seem to be far less enthusiastic about saving the planet when gas prices are down, and so they buy fewer Priuses, and that explains the lower production. In other words, lower demand means reducing the supply.

I don't have a hybrid nor do I have any plan to buy one but why are the so-called auto enthusiasts seem so insecure about these hybrids' place in the marketplace? Last time I checked, there couple of million buyers of these things out there, ugly or not, so why shouldn't the car mfrs go after them? Or is it a case of not-originated-here envy?

How about that the douche bags in Toyota top management finally realized that such a hideous design wouldn't sell for shit and that's why they lowered their sales projections?

On a recent trip to Germany I noticed Prius taxis mixed in with the Mercedes. Appeared to be the most common Toyota model on the streets. Looks like making headway in highly loyal market.

At Amsterdam-Schipol Airport, they love Teslas. One cabbie said it costs about €80k, but you have the thing virtually paid off in 3 years because they're the most highly sought after cab ride. Outside of that, it's pretty much diesels.

Just based on how really ugly/stupid looking both inside and out this new Prius looks I would for sure low the the sales expectations by a lot.
