New Strategy Keeps Escalade Demand And Prices High - Is This The New Future For The Brand?
On paper, the hulking Escalade SUV represents everything that Cadillac wants to leave behind about its brand image. It shares underpinnings with Chevys and GMCs. It's not sold in any real volume overseas. Its blinged-out, body-on-frame ride offers anything but nimble performance.

And yet, it's the one vehicle in the showroom that has what Cadillac executives desire most: the brand-name cachet to command top dollar, often from import-leaning customers who might not otherwise set foot in a Cadillac dealership.

You can blame new money and the Kardashians for this one.

The funny thing is that has nothing to do with. As much as I loath GM and could care less about Cadillac, Escalade is the benchmark when it comes to a premium SUV of that size. Even Lexus can't get the LX to hold a candle to it when it comes to competing for it to be successful.

What's even funnier to me is that Cadillac is lost that that they are even scratching their heads when they succeed at finally being number one in one category.

Cadillac was gifted this as a segment leader. Why athletes, rappers etc chose this to be their trophy on wheels, who knows but Cadillac should enjoy it.

I don't get the need to bash Escalade owners as tasteless owners. The majority of the people I see driving these it more seems to be a soccer mom's Rolex, if you disagree just run up to the next Escalade you see and tell me whether you find Drake, Lebron James or just your average little white lady that looks like she might be more comfortable in a Corolla.

Assuming that mostly celebrities, athletes, & drug dealers buy Escalades is just as tasteless in unto itself. That kind of thinking is the "problem". The typical person I see driving (new) Escalades, QX80s, LXs, etc....are doctors, lawyers, biz execs/owners, nurses, retirees, men/women...who are familiar people to me in my own neighborhood. They like what they like & buy what they want.

Weird. The white people I see in these things are actually driving a GMC or Suburban instead of the Escalade. Not sure if I've ever seen a lady driving an Escalade except from those West Coast waste of skin ladies.

The Mrs. wants one...

The Escalade is an excellent product. It's actually what's right with Cadillac. It's traditional American luxury done impeccably. The Escalade trends well with middle-aged, retired, and millennials with money. It's appeal is pretty universal.

De Nysschen probably wants to rename it the XT9, but he's an idiot.

RETURN CADILLAC TO NAMES AND TRADITIONAL AMERICAN LUXURY!

Sorry but the Escalade is not universal.
But it is what Cadillac does best.

@carsnyc before you speak an untruth look at both the sales of this product and the demographics of the buyers. The age span is wide, the geographic span is wide. Moreover, the customer satisfaction with the Escalade is enviable.

You may wish to look up the word universal as well.

The Escalade doe not represent what Cadillac does best - it represents what American Buyers want in a Cadillac - and when Cadillac actually makes a wanted car - they can sell a lot of them - it will never become an XT something either.

THe problem is that DeNysschen has decided the type of car he wants to make independent of the market - and Cadillac cars dont sell because they are NOT what the customers want. Now - DeNysschen is planning to eliminate another group of customers by cancelling the XTS. I cannot understand how Mary Bara can continue to allow this nitwit to ignore the market and force unwanted cars on it.

@TomM Oh come on! What buyers want in a brand is what the brand should do best. PERIOD.

Seems like the Escalade is full-size luxury SUV king for the same reason the F-150/Silverado are leaders in the US full-size truck category - consumers just continue to buy them & typically like them (in the US). SUVs this size (mainstream or luxury) don't sell well in foreign markets b/c they're just too big very bulky. Nothing wrong with it sharing parts with GMC/Chevy vehicles though - that's an elitist's perception - especially looking at the design relationship b/t the Land Cruiser & LX.

Cadillac should definitely be considering a large SUV/CUV that sits under the Escalade in the lineup. Especially a new CUV that would compete on the global level with the LX, GLS, Q7, Range Rover, QX80, etc.

An XT9 or whatever...should have been a no-brainer 5 years ago. The fear of model cannibalization always has a staggering affect on this type of major decisions for a critical brand. The Escalade is the "face" of Cadillac despite the awesome CTS. But GM is faced with fear of making a near-Escalade CUV that may kill the Escalade sales (and profits) but match (or exceed) all the foreign competition & still not get much respect globally.

If they do it well though they don't have anything to worry about. The next best in volume to the Escalade is the QX80 and Infiniti now offers the QX60 previously JX35 and both are doing great even though.
