Hyundai Teases Prius Killing Ioniq Hybrid - Is It Really THAT Easy To Take Down An Icon?

After confirming that the model will be built earlier this month, Hyundai has released teasers of its Ioniq Toyota Prius rival. It's set to be the world's first production car with fully electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options in the range.

The Ioniq is expected to be shown in full early on in 2016, but these official images give us an idea of both the exterior and interior design of the production car. The Korean firm claims the outside has been primarily designed to offer "class-leading aerodynamic performance".

Get better fuel economy at a lower purchase price, and you'll get noticed.

Especially considering this looks like a normal car and the sketch looks much better (in my opinion) than the Prius. Hopefully the finished product doesn't look peculiar.

So they just retouched the 2016 Volt and slapped on a discount. Big whoop.

The Volt was and is a hopeless waste of time just like its cousin the ELR and with its horrific sales history it has no relevance in the conversation, we are talking about car's that may actually have a future.

"...Is It Really THAT Easy To Take Down An Icon?..." YES of course it is. According to 009, Hyundai/Kia had already dominated Toyota on hybrid, BMW on performance car and MB on luxury models already. All three having been "running scared" for the last 4+ years. :-)

The Tesla S proves that a green car need not be revolting to look at. If the Ioniq is gorgeous and does what the Prius does, Hyundai could have a winner on its hands.

not gonna happen anytime soon, prius is untouchable. It might not look pretty but it's the best hybrid out there. "Prius Killing"? The only thing that will be killed is Hyundai.

Hybrids require reliability certainty to counter battery/electronics repair anxiety. Hyundai is a fail.
