2016 Camaro SS Vs 2016 Ford Mustang GT - Which Is The Best All Around Pony Car?

2016 Camaro SS Vs 2016 Ford Mustang GT - Which Is The Best All Around Pony Car?
The pony-car war has been going on for nearly 50 years, an eternity in our world of ephemeral marketing, but it's never been as interesting as it is right now. The new Camaro SS, lighter than before, faces a restyled Mustang GT that debuted just last year with a vastly improved suspension. Both Michigan-made machines pack powerful V8s, but they're clearly engineered for more than revving at red lights. They want to chase each other through switchbacks and pivot through hairpins.

So, we left the gridlines of Michigan behind for the Chattahoochee-Oconee and Cherokee National Forests, which straddle the spine of Appalachia through Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. On the map, the roads in these parts appear to have been inked by a drunken tattoo artist during an 8.4-magnitude shaker. They include the famous Tail of the Dragon, the most notorious curvy road in the country.

I came from a generation of car owners who probably built their first or second car - and when someone was coming of age for driving in the family - we found a wreck - and an engine - and a trans - and a rear - and a car became reality.

It is a shame that is not even remotely possible today.

Pretty much every auto publication has put the Camaro over the Mustang. Impressive work from Chevy/GM with this machine. Too bad they couldn't give it a better interior. But the performance value here is astonishing.

@cidflekken review the double posts on the difficulty of being wined and dined by a manufacturer and not being able to tell the truth. Of course the Camaro comes out on top because that is how you sell magazines.

I do like the new Camaro quite a bit even if its styling is uninviting. It's a great drive, but I'd imagine the differences come down to personal taste.

I waited until I could get my hands on the new Camaro, but I went with a Mustang instead.

Bottom line: Camaro guys buy Camaros and Mustang guys buy Mustangs.

I like the looks of the Mustang better but as always, the Camaro sends the Mustang packing.

The new Camaro SS is closer in performance than the GT350 so of course it's going to beat the Mustang GT in every test.

The GT350 is a sweet drive.

In power and price, the GT and SS are more closely aligned than the SS and GT350.

I have been waiting on this comparison to come out for a while now.... But why did they get an Automatic Camaro and Manual Mustang. Lets compare apples to apples.

Loyalty to a car brand is silly. It's the design, performance and other things that make one likes a particular model within a brand. Personally I prefer the Mustang (drove both cars years ago) but don't plan to go back since there are many other cars to choose from. You have one life to live and so many cars, why keep driving the same thing ?

You do know the Mustang and Camaro are new right? I own a 2016 Mustang and have a new Camaro as a tester. They are as different as night and day. The Mustang is a terrible Camaro. The Camaro is a terrible Mustang.

If the missus will allow, I'll add a Camaro to the GT350 and my other cars.

I still haven't be able to get out to the track with the GT350 and my Sagaris LS7 conversion.

First-world problems.

Loyalty to a brand is not silly if you like the brand and have had a good experience with the brand. The Camaro may win on the 0-60 and the skid pad but which car is more livable day to day. In that case you have to give it to the Mustang. The Camaro bugaboo is you cannot see out of it. That to me would become and issue over time. The Ford is a much easier car to get comfortable with. It may not quite have the ability of the Camaro until you go to the GT350 but it is an easier car to drive.
