Acura Puts The Swoop On With Preview Of New Styling Direction
Acura will use next month’s Detroit auto show to offer a peek into the future design of its sedans.

Honda’s luxury division plans to show a car it calls the Acura Precision Concept on the second day of the North American International Auto Show.

A teaser image of the concept shows a far more dramatic profile than Acura has shown in its sedans, with a long hood and sharp creases stretching from the front fender to the taillights.

Does putting the swoop on mean taking the beak off?

Please. I hope so.

Well, it's a bit late to the party. Hyundai Genesis, Lexus RC, Audi A7, and even Honda's own Accord coupe, amongst many others have already employed similar design themes into their cars. Granted, this is strictly concept, so we'll see how the theme makes its way to production models.

This profile looks like what the Infiniti Q60 would look like if it didn't have that hideous C-pillar warp.

On another note, based on Honda's willingness to step outside of its conservative box and really take an aggressive approach shows in the new Civic and its upcoming iterations, so we can only hope Acura will take this same approach with their products.

So, they're gonna try to look more like Toyota, Mazda, Infiniti, etc.?

Whenever designers get fixated on a "theme" -- flat surfaces, trapezoids, creases, swoops, ornate lighting -- they detract from the car's potential for beauty. They also jump on a bandwagon that's shared by others, and in doing so, they lose brand differentiation (aside from some trademarked elements like a corporate logo).

They are almost in a no win situation unless they "beak" err break new ground.

Agent009: I have to agree, The Beak has never been a winning design element.

If this is an emergency redesign of the truly terrible RLX then get it to market already.
