With The CLA And GLA Enjoying Remarkable Success – Is There A Market For Even SMALLER Mercedes Vehicles?
The Germans are currently plugging any gap they can find or create with niche models, so why not the one between the A-Class and the smart forfour as well? After all, that’s a very lucrative segment - at least in Europe it is - and Audi already has a foothold there in the shape of the perky A1. And then there’s BMW’s MINI Cooper, but at the rate that model is growing, it will soon rival the S-Class.

So, even though small cars and premium aspirations don’t usually go together that well, Mercedes-Benz could one day decide it was time to conquer that segment as well. It could go for a new smart forfive model (we’re just thinking out loud here) or invent a new smaller X-Class, where "X" is a letter of Mercedes-Benz’s choosing.

What a Honda Civic hatchback would be if Mercedes made it. I'm not sure there's a market for that.

The GLA pretty much is a hatchback already. The GLA45 AMG is an incredible machine.

As long as Mercedes keeps reaching up, they can keep reaching down, launching the all new S Class/Maybach S almost simultaneously with the CLA/GLA, apparently worked stabilizing the brands image and allowing to grow in the high end and low end

Keep the formula going Merc

They both scream "I'm a badge whore" to me, cheap quality and trying to hard styling for the CLA and just ugly for the GLA, I'd take the all new Civic over either of those

Oh please!!! The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is a badge whore.

Mercedes actually produced a nice vehicle in the GLA and CLA, they just gave it a b*tch engine unless you go AMG, which was kind of smart. BMW resorts to "you can have that nasty crap ooorrrrrrrr we can charge you $60k for this over here."

The one thing Mercedes could add is a hatchback that specifically targets the Mini Cooper and GTI. That would be sheer brilliance for a variety of reasons.
