It seems that tinkerers are having a lot of fun these days. Whether they're hacking into a website and taking it down via DDoS attacks, or building their own remote controlled Chevrolet Corvette, it seems there's a never-ending way to cure boredom.

In a recently uploaded YouTube clip, a gentleman that seems to have European plates on his C6 Corvette has accomplished a James Bond-like remote controlled car.

As you can see in the clip below, he can steer, give the car throttle and shift it as needed. Yes, it's an automatic. Hell, our subject even manages to do what one would expect in a piece of American muscle: a burnout.

This seems pretty timely given that major auto manufacturers, specifically BMW and Mercedes-Benz are starting to offer OEM solutions that are essentially allowing remote control to park vehicles in tight spots.

Having said this, what say YOU, Spies? Is this capability AWESOME or AWFUL?

Testing my control unit for the first time outside :)

The car is fully remote controlled! 2.4ghz - 6 channel transmitter. Controls included:
Braking x2
steering
starting
turning off
Shifting
Throttle

Everything works on my custom universal controller! Could be used for everything
that you want to remotely control with any receiver and transmitter combo.

I don't know if there is one.

Perhaps fun?

Pointless idiocy.

I'm anticipating that one day all race cars will be autonomously driven saving manufacturers driver's salaries while being extremely fast competitive safe racing. Manufacturers will promote their engineering excellence. Open wheel cars are seriously considering canopies for driver safety and soon thereafter fans will get use to not seeing drivers which will lead to no drivers putting the emphasis on brands where the manufacturers want it.

That's a really great call but takes the fun out of the sport, which can be argued, relies on driver ability.

Agent00R... While I agree with you that much of the fun of big time big budget racing will be diminished I believe there is a silver lining. With autonomous driving cars taking over the roads and eventually the government outlawing driving true enthusiasts will look for an outlet
for their passion. They will look to closed circuit tracks which will be built in large numbers nationwide like after WW2 and join driving clubs that support amateur racing. Cars from the 1980's-2000's available in large number, at low cost will support grass roots racing.
amongst the masses.
