How Hard can it be to step on the Gas Pedal ?? I mean I do it all the time and I have never once felt the need to use Cruise Control (except for a couple of times when i wanted to see how hard you could accelerate using it)

So not only do we have Cruise available as Standard on almost all vehicles encouraging people to concentrate less on the road (Reaction Times Reduced Significantly when Cruise is on as driver's Foot is No Longer Covering the Gas or Brake Pedals, They are flat on the Floor and reqiure more time to move into position need to apply Brakes or Gas Quickly) And please do not deny this if you use Cruise Control because the effort required to Cover the Brake/Gas Pedals is Equal to that required to Drive the Damn Vehicle Yourself.
We then are sold Radar systems that seek Imminent Collisions due to Lack of Driver Concentration and then Proceed to Slow or Stop the Vehicle if need be.

Tell me, What is to stop People Becomming Even More Dependent On these Systems and Concentrate Even Less on the Road.

Research needs to be done into how many Collisions in NA involve Vehicles that had Cruise Control Switched On, im sure you will be Shocked with the results

I also Think the self Park Feature is Silly, However if it will help reduce the No of Parking Shunts and Paint Swapping, I guess its okay.

This is a long line of features that are insulating the driver from the actual driving process. While it is helpful, tools such as this are requiring the driver to become less skilled and therefore more dangerous on the road overall. We are straying away from BASIC driving skills and relying on these tools to drive for us. Dumbing down the car to the least skilled element rather than addressing the root cause.

Want other example on how this concept works? Ask the typical college graduate how to extract the square root of 225 WITHOUT a calculator? typically you will get a blank stare.

Not quite. The LS is nice, but I don't see much class-leading critirea that will threaten the S-Class, besides maybe its relatively inexpensive $60-65K base price.

They both have:

380hp V8s
Endless technological wizardry
Finely crafted interiors

The S-Class has:

Mouthwatering style and desirability
Available AWD
Connection to road, while in supreme comfort (I've driven a few)
More distinctive interior

LS has:

Reliability


That's pretty much it. Mercedes is really upping the ante in quality now; the S is almost as fabulous as the A8 on the inside.

Well said. The S-Class has won my heart - and I love BMW and Audi before MB!

I don't think the S-Class has mouthwatering style. I think that Mercedes was trying too hard to come up with a good design. Lexus made their design subtle, but very stunning at the same time.

The only place this car will really affect the competition is in America--a market more concerned with a lower price and alleged reliability as opposed to the proven heritage of the competition.

Iam really sorry guys, but even if I had this feature , I would still park the car myself and maybe i will try it buy putting cardboard boxes to test it. Sorry i dont trust it. If you saw the new CL 600 , it has a nice feature, that lets you park youself by matching your steering lines (displayed on a screen) to the computers lines. Its in the CL viseo in german on autospies.

Far from a complete solution, but sorry Will, VW has the same system on the Touran, for a lot less money.

i thought BMW was the first to put this technology!! & i remember that BMW's sys finishes the parking and not half of it!
