#NAIAS: TEASED! Kia Gives Us Just A TASTE Of What To Expect in Detroit — What Does Its Full-Size SUV Concept NEED To SUCCEED?
In the full-size sport-utility vehicle game, one company that should have something on offer but doesn't is Kia. Although the Borrego came around for one year and was promptly shot down, it seems that Kia is considering giving it another 'go.

And it should.

Not only has Kia stepped up its game significantly, if we think someone would have the chance to give the full-size SUV game a run for its money it would be Kia. Not only do we think that Kia has the brass to deliver a good looking production vehicle, as seen with the Sedona minivan the company can deliver an excellent product with an equally solid warranty.

Having said that, what would a full-size Kia SUV NEED to SUCCEED against the latest and greatest offerings in the space?

The Korean automaker will be displaying its concept at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) but little is known about it at this point.

Kia's press release follows:

Detroit Concept Teaser #1

Kia Motors America will reveal a new concept car January 11 at the 2016 North American International Auto Show. Conceived at the automaker's California design studio, the concept offers an abundance of advanced technology – including state-of-the-art health-and-wellness technology – and takes Kia's design language in a bold new direction, suggesting styling of a possible future premium large SUV in the brand's lineup.

Can you say Jeepney?

I don't see this selling well. The Toyota Sequoia is a beast and it can't even compete with the Big 3.

I think this Kia will do well. My wife drives a Sequoia and loves it, but Toyota has refused to redesign the Sequoia. We have a 2008 which is the first year of the 2nd generation, and the earliest they may redesign is 2020, and this is in a market where gas prices have been low for several months and are predicted to remain low in the coming years, and with GM posting great sales with the Yukon, Tahoe, and Escalade.

Kia built a Range Rover?

I guess I don't understand the wisdom of the product placement. Given that they are making Genesis a brand and the best way to grow that brand is with an SUV, why then isn't this a Genesis concept.

Your kidding, right. Taking a page from Cadillac, Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura. Use a SUV from parent company and add: wood, extra noise insulation, thicker carpets, change the head and tail lights, etc. and now you have a "luxury" SUV. Smart.

Look, a Mitsubishi Montero and a Toyota Land Cruiser had a really big baby.

There are also elements of the Infiniti QX80, aka "the whale" as the front end looks like a beluga. All the Asian large SUVs just look dated. Not good models to copy.

"Dated" is the perfect word. If I had production paint on it, no one would realize it was even a concept.
