Toyota Says AWD For Prius Will Never Be In The Cards

More and more car buyers are opting for all-wheel drive, but one car that may never be offered with the system is the Toyota Prius hybrid.

Considering how popular the Prius is with three-huggers and fuel-misers, you’d think Toyota would give it AWD to further increase its appeal; however, the Japanese automaker is doubtful that there will be enough demand for the option.

AWD would eat into fuel economy. This would not be a good option for Prius

AWD as an option means adding a rear motor and associated power delivery (battery, generator, inverter, controls) which isn't cost effective as an option. Will come someday as standard, likely when motor per wheel is perfected, probably for an EV vehicle.

AWD won't happen for Prius because a Prius (RAV4) crossover is no doubt planned.

The new Prius should come with a "no-wheel drive" option. That way you could push it into a corner and nobody on the roads would have to suffer through looking at such a hideous abomination.

Are you describing the car or your childhood? (if hyperbole is what were going for here)
