#NAIAS: As Good As It Is, Does The New Honda Ridgeline Stand A Chance Against the Domestics?
Like many of you, I watched with glee as Honda revealed the new Ridgeline earlier this week at the Detroit Auto Show. It’s handsome, I thought. It’s practical. It’s well equipped. It has a nifty little storage area that’s perfect for a) tailgaters and b) human traffickers. As David Tracy said, it’s all the truck most people will never need. Too bad pickup owners aren’t going to buy it.

After seeing the whole package, I actually think this will have a very good chance of making headway in the market, no less than the trucks from Nissan or Toyota. Folks looking at the Colorado and Tacoma will cross-shop this, contingent on Honda marketing it right. Will it sell as much as the Americans? Heck no, that's impossible. But it should do better than the previous car.

Noting that GM has maxed out it production capacity - and even with constant three shifts cannot produce enough of these trucks to meet demand - UNLESS gm opens another plant (and they are trying to avoid that) - Honda has a window of opportunity. It looks like a proper truck this time - has an unmatched interior - and it has that lockable storage area below the rear bed too. For those who buy these vehicles - but rarely use them as trucks - the Honda does have something to offer

Agreed. The Honda's interior is worlds better than the competitors'. For the most part, this won't attract your "typical pickup crowd", and that's exactly who Honda is aiming for. This time with a much better product.

HELL YEAH! MORE RELIABLE, BETTER LOOKING, CAPABLE, GOOD RESALE, AND IT WON'T KILL OR INJURE YOU LIKE THE GM COLORADO AND CANYON. I BUY THIS B4 THE FUGLY TWINS.

This is another dead wrong aim from Honda. Pickup buyers want real pickups and a minivan with a pickup body on it simply will not threaten Ford, GM, or FCA.

Crossover pickups ARE waiting to happen, but this is NOT the one. A Jeep Commanche (Cherokee pickup) would sell like mad as would a Ford Ranchero (Escape pickup).

As with the last Ridgeline. It will cost as much as an F150, not get better MPG, and also will not be as capable.

This vehicle will pull sales from other Asian/European brands like Toyota, Nissan, and appeal to those that want pickup utility but would not touch a Ford/GM/FCA. Should do fine for Honda, though not likely a game changer.

Body not bad. They need to sell it as a more versatile SUV that doubles as a truck for the odd heavier duty job. Should sell better but I doubt it'll blow away any sales expectations.
