#NAIAS: Japanese Automakers Preparing To Take Their Slice Of The American Truck Market
Japanese automakers are taking on the Detroit 3 and scrambling to expand their share of pickup truck sales in the United States, as record low gasoline prices curb demand for their once best-selling small and medium-sized sedans.

Soaring demand for SUVs and pickup trucks drove U.S. auto sales to a record high last year, as the lowest fuel prices in seven years prompted a shift from sedans and smaller cars to larger vehicles in the world's biggest auto market.

Stay tuned to AutoSpies.com for the latest breaking news related to the 2016 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS)!

Japanese could have had a larger portion of the market, but Toyota bowed to pressure and did not launch the original Tundra with a V8.

If you are not playing to win, you should not play at all!

At least GM paid the money back with interest. To be fair, GM, as do a lot of auto manufacturers, have a history of churning out less than stellar models.

Remember, if GM went under, they would have taken 10,000s of jobs with them during a severe economic downturn. This would have had ripple effects on a global level.

If you want to be pissed at someone, look toward Wall St. and the politicians that not only let it happen, but passed legislature that gave them a blank check when they screw up the economy again.

The Titan was the a great truck that got mired in bad pr when Nissan introduced it with brakes from an Altima.

Out of all of them, the Titan was the most fun to drive and the best truck on the market, but she was quite thirsty.

Good luck. GM, Ford and RAM will defend their largest selling lines to the death...yours or theirs!

@AGENT009 does Nissan pay you to cheerlead? The Titan will have ZERO impact. The Tundra is a much better truck and it's floundering.

Actually - the foreign companies DO already have a large slice of the pie - Chrysler is not an American Company anymore - and I am surprised that neither Ford nor GM has brought that up - in advertising.

However - in trucks used as trucks - it will be hard for a Japanese company to make substantial inroads. This is one of the most loyal American buying public there is.

All companies are global now. They have to be to stay competitive and deliver profits to shareholders, which anybody with a pension plan or 401K happens to be. GM is sourcing vehicles from all over the world and Ford likewise. They would be fools to run ads like that against FCA.

Why doesn't Nissan put a FORD badge on their new truck and be done with it.

Can't the Asians demonstrate an ounce of creativity, originality and imagination?

I'll go ahead and say it for those who won't, I'd gladly look like the stuffy prick driving one of these ONLY if I got a killer deal on it though. I'm talking Platinum Premium for under $40k.

I miss the days of $4+/gal gasoline.

When gas was high, big trucks and SUVs were a steal. Plus, I can afford it.

Absolutely nothing political about it.

If you're so curious, really couldn't care less who's in office so long as we have projects to work on that are in support of positive global relations and societal advancement as well as I need a fkng paycheck. I was first in line hoping for the Keystone pipeline knowing full well the potential for soil and ground water contamination. I wouldn't mind living with a nuclear plant in my back yard. Obamacare sucks, but until someone suggests and alternative other than rolling back the clocks, they can stfu.

The issue of global warming seems silly. If the planet was able to evolve in such a manner as to create giant animals and changes in O2 concentrations over the millennia to better accommodate life as we know it, it's just evolution. I don't think people affect the atmosphere anymore than ancient volcanos and asteroids. Planets and stars are born and die everyday.

All this coming from a semi-religious communist.
