NY Dealer Marks Up New Shelby GT 350 To A Cool $149K - Are You Breaking Out The Checkbook?
Dealerships suck and this proves it. Instead of helping enthusiasts get into their dream machines, dealerships are out there to dime and nickel every enthusiast that’s looking to get into a car. Don’t believe us? Take Van Bortel Ford in New York as an example. The dealership is asking for $149,500 for a Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang.

That's freaking insane

Buying a car over MSRP is like throwing money out an open window.

It'll never sell at that price.

This is absurd!!. My brother worked for Ford's for 30 plus years; if I wanted one I'd buy one under his Employee Ford Plan. Hope the dealer chokes on it.

Cars like that aren't on employee purchase lists for a long time if ever.

If some yahoo shows up with a bag of cash, that the rip off dealer scores big. At Meecum auction, car were selling for unheard of prices. There is a lot of money out there looking for a home other than .08% interest rate bank accounts.

While the dealer can do as it pleases, dealers who do that DO get the attention of Ford and they DO risk having their allotment "revised". Gouging is shady business practice and also an anathema to customer satisfaction.

Price bumping ALWAYS backfires on the dealer. Yes, I pulled rank months ago for mine, but I also put the deposit down.

Granted the GT350 isn't plentiful, but it is available.

We have a waiting list and we are selling at full list and not a penny more. We do not accept bribes. We are honest with our customers. We took big deposits for the GT350 and those buyers are getting their cars as they come in.

You cannot walk in and buy a GT350, but you also won't pay over list.

We'd rather be reputable that be douche bags.

@Agent001 - your comment is only semi-accurate. The hourly workers and retired workers (as my brother) get a list of vehicles that they can NOT buy immediately. Ford wants the public driving these cars and trucks have them on the road. This particular MODEL vehicle has a 6 month hold by Ford hourly employees where they can't purchase. However, they CAN submit their order now, but their order will not be put in the queue until that month when available, then released. He picked his Shelby custom options, features and colors; had to place a deposit, then received a "tentative" date - based on the 6 month wait period.

They can't restrict NEVER being eligible when they BUILD or worked on the factory line. Hourly workers' UAW contract per my retired brother wouldn't allow this. He worked on the line in the Ford Sterling Heights, Michigan plant. His estimated arrival on his new car will be third to fourth week of July.

People can ask for whatever they want, doesn't mean they get it. Big deal, it never hurts to ask!
I am sure 99% of people on this site ask too much for their house when they advertise it for sale, probably well above market value hoping some one will just come in and pay cash for it.
I saw a bidding war at a BMW dealer for an i8. When I was in for service, I saw 3 guys arguing over the selling price. One guy bid $30k over MSRP for it, of course the dealership took it! Who wouldn't?
