DieselGate Clouds Loom Large As VW Sales Drop 14.6% In January
Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported sales of 20,079 units delivered in January 2016.  The Tiguan produced the best January results on record for the vehicle with 2,528 vehicles delivered, a 71.6 percent increase.

“We are encouraged by the strong performance of the Tiguan,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “January sales numbers were down due to the seasonal nature of the fleet business. Despite that and the weather conditions in the Northeast portion of the country, Volkswagen dealers improved in terms of retail business.”

This month also marked the best January ever for the Golf R with 477 vehicles delivered. The e-Golf also had its best January ever with 328 vehicles delivered, an 81.2 percent increase versus last year. At the recent CES 2016, Volkswagen presented the e-Golf Touch which featured a gesture control system and showed technologies that are close to production.

This is it. VW may just as well be dead in the U.S.
And with no lineup replacement on the horizon even the most hardcore fans will start looking elsewhere.
Audi must -at all costs- try to separate itself from VW in the minds of people; otherwise, the domino effect is bound to hit them.

Audi sales in North America have remained largely unaffected by Dieselgate. It appears the buying public doesn't make the connection between Audi and VAG, The Volkswagen Audi Group.

My local Audi dealer, who says most Q5 sales were diesel, tells me that Q5 sales are unaffected: customers who wanted a diesel Q5 are either waiting for the voluntary diesel "sales hold" to be lifted before buying, or they bought one with a gas engine instead.

VW has always had a USA base of enthusiast customers buying GTIs and other vehicles that are a joy to drive. They are still there and they are not going to switch to Toyota's etc. VW won't disappear but will be a smaller more focused player if it remembers it's roots. There are a bunch of VW diesel lovers who may come back as well.
