BREAKING: Toyota To Kill Off Failing Scion Brand In August
Toyota is pulling the plug on Scion, the funky upstart brand it launched in 2002 to appeal to the finicky younger buyers it was struggling to connect with on its own.

The reason, according to Toyota: It’s no longer struggling to connect with those buyers.

The end will come quickly -- and just months after the launch of two vehicles that were seen as critical to reviving the brand. Scion will be discontinued in August, the automaker said today, and its model lineup will be folded into the Toyota brand starting with the 2017 model year.

Good decision. So what will the iA and iM called now?

The iA and iB can be rebadged as the Lexus JS200 and QS200.

I would think the will simply replace the scion badge with Toyota crest and call is a day.

How likely do you think it is to see Acura being folded back into Honda or Infiniti into Nissan and try to upscale these brands? The level of trim stripping especially with Honda and especially when compared to the same models available abroad is really sad.

If Acura can translate the Precision Concept faithfully and quickly into ILX and RLX replacements named Integra and Legend, they would regain some ground.

I think so too. iM can be a replacement for the Matrix, but what will iA do? It's slotted between the Corolla and Yaris, I guess they will get rid of the Yaris.

By the looks of the new Prius and the ultra-hideous Mirai, Toyota should consider killing itself off.

Scion needed to die a long time ago. Toyota never was successful in creating a brand image for Scion. Without a strong brand image, a brand has a hard time sustaining itself. Their current models are a thinly disguised Subaru, ditto a Mazda, ditto a Euro Toyota that isn't even new. Crossovers are hot and yet Scion had NONE. Aside from the original XB, Scion was not adept at creating a must-have line of cars. Moreover, it's market placement was the same as Toyota with take-it-or-leave-it pricing that caused people to buy Toyotas.

Nice aesthetics but Scion had poor reliability and did them in. Social media young people spread the negative word about Scion which was the kiss of death to the brand.
