Tiguan To Spawn Seven Seat Variant And Five Door Coupe

Volkswagen is preparing a number of new Tiguan variants following the arrival of the latest-generation model.

Auto Express has learned from the company's compact cars boss Dr Jochen Bohle that a new family of Tiguan-based models are on the cards, including a large seven-seat derivative as well as a five-door coupe envisioned to rival the Range Rover Evoque.

According to Bohle, “We have plans for a whole Tiguan family over the next two to three years. It is almost like a brand in itself, Tiguan, and our product and sales teams believe it will support more than one car.”

VW needs a true 7 seater to rival the Explorer and Pilot. So does Jeep for that matter.

That would be the CrossBlue right? Not a Tiguan??

I wish VW would stop showing all these hybrid/EV concepts & just put a expected fuel engine concept on the stands that will most-likely be made. Their BS is getting ridiculous now. Admit the CrossBlue will be their next mid-sizer CUV & move on.

If VW wants a 7-seat variant, shouldn't they start with an SUV that fits at least 3 people in the rear? Has anyone actually sat as passengers in the back seat of a Tiguan? Some would argue that its small size makes it more suitable for luggage than for actual passengers.

When I had my 2011 Tiguan, no one ever said anything bad about the back seat space. I was more concerned with the space behind the rear seats, as it was smaller than the Jetta I traded, and is far smaller than my current Passat. Since I have no need of a 3 row, I would appreciate the additional cargo space.

The frustrating thing for VW dealers is watching comparable brands like Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, Honda, and Toyota raking in the cash with SUVs and crossovers and realizing they don't have anything competent to sell. The Tiguan is small relative to its competition and decidedly more expensive. The Touareg is stupendously wrong in every way.

A new Tiguan is coming. The CrossBlue is coming in theory. There's a Taigun in theory, but nothing tangible. The segment has been hot for 20 years and VW is just now thinking about thinking about thinking about getting into it.
