Sending The Wrong Message? Cascada Tasked As Buick's Halo Car
For the brand formerly known as “the doctor’s car,” the Buick Cascada may be just what the doctor ordered.

General Motors’ premium marque, once the preferred transportation of the house-calling doctor a half-century ago, hopes to bring fresh air and sunshine to the market with the launch of the ’16 Cascada. The stylish and sporty 4-seat convertible is Buick’s first drop-top since the ’91 Reatta.

Buick topped 1 million sales in China in 2015, but the brand is still a work-in-progress in the U.S., where it battles a gray-haired image to gain relevance with a younger and more diverse buying public.

While the Cascada might be "just fine, for what it is," it doesn't say "premium" or "halo car" to me.

Buick makes the New LaCrosse - which is the HALO car of the division - and still is the Doctors car.

Other cars labeled as Buick are really Opels - which is nothing more than an mass market entry level (Similar to Vw) vehicle producer in Europe that some people are trying to pass off as a higher level maker. They aren't that.

Taking three-year-old Opel that was designed for nail girls, hair dressers, and people over 70 and making it the halo is asinine.

Until Cadillac disappears, Buick will continue to be irrelevant. It's similar to the Mercury vs Lincoln relationship.
