Bad Idea? Cadillac Says They Will NOT Be Changing The Escalade Anytime Soon

Recent reports suggested the Escalade might no longer fit Cadillac’s image as the brand evolves upward to compete with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Snooty luxury buyers would be embarrassed to see the bulky Escalade alongside their sleek sport sedans and their crossover cousins.

The theory held that new Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen, the guy with the classy European accent and long history selling Audis, would send the Escalade packing like a poor relation exiled from dinner in a British drama.

If anything, Cadillac should stop trying to be BMW or Mercedes and just be Cadillac. The Escalade is the ONLY Cadillac they can't keep on the lot and the only one that does not need steep incentives to move the metal. It is exactly what the rest of the Cadillac line needs to become.

They should return to names like Elmiraj, Ciel, Imaj, Provoq and be "don't mess with Texas" American even if they might be made in China for US consumption.

Completely Agree - but YOU left one thing out - MOST Cadillac owners don't give a damn about what DeNyschen thinks - they buy the vehicle THEY want. AND if DeNyschen doesn't want to provide it - someone else will (READ that LINCOLN). IF DeNyschen is content with bringing Cadillac down to TVR numbers - fine -I doubt GM will long accept such nonsense. THey are a Mass Producer of cars - and unless they spin off Cadillac (Which makes no sense - they use too many common parts) - it is time they actually asked the BUYERS what they want.

AND I think the buyers will tell them to do pretty much what you said - and also bring the LONG wheelbase Chinese cars to the USA too. Frankly - what I would do - is reprice the line - with the ATS going against the GLA class entry level cars - the CTS going after the 3/C Class cars - and the CT6 going after the E class/5 series. That way - each Cadillac would offer a larger car for the money - which was their original marketing plan when the first CTS came to be.

THen - they need to bring in an AMERICAN to run Cadillac - and send DeNyschen packing.

I do agree. Cadillac should return to using names in lieu of the alphanumerics. They only work for standard models you plan to make year-in year-out & model specs change all the time. (See BMW, M-B, Infiniti, etc)

But if you use names, keep them. There's a reason why vehicle names resonate with consumers - maybe b/c the automakers make a good car or SUV & then improve on that model through the years. Dropping model names seems like a complete change in philosophy to some consumers. And that's a negative thing.

And as far as Cadillac "changing" the Escalade...why? It's a competent & popular vehicle which continues to sell. Cadillac could have made a number of variants off the model/platform but has been "playing it safe".

Agreed, plus make them 5% bigger (car dimensions) and 7 to 10% cheaper (against the Germans)

I'm not an Escalade fan, but I see GM's point. They've found their fans. It's a hot seller. It appears GM has found a winning recipe for an audience that likes this vehicle.

The wife wants one when the lease on the Flex is up. LOL. My wife is a mean woman. I think she is using me to keep her pregnant so we have to get an Escalade. We're at 4 and counting. LOL

If you are upper class, have a larger family, not a minivan person and need to tow a larger boat of horse trailer, your options are limited.

@Jeffgall, my wife comes from wealth and I don't, so spending $100K on a Cadillac Suburban irks me. We can afford an Escalade, but it irks me nevertheless.

Still, I can't complain. She indulges my car hobby and didn't blink an eye when I put deposits down on the new TVR.

More than likely, she will have her Escalade for Christmas. She keeps getting pregnant....:)

@MDarringer let me tell you something, my wife and I both come from money and one thing that I have learned from being around wealthy people most of my life is that most never talk or brag about money or what they have.
Money doesn't make any of us better or smarter, it just gives us the more choices.
I find it funny that you always mention "ghetto" cars and most of the individuals I see driving Escalades are just that, except for very few exceptions.

As a gussied up Chevy, the Escalade looks like, feels like, and drives like the Chevy Tahoe. Except GM charges the fools who purchase it about $30+ grand extra. Plus the huge depreciation, the Escalade is the most costly American SUV

Depends on where you resell them, moron! Lease return Escalades are not getting steeply discounted here nor do they stay around long when we get one.

The issue is that they have put a person at the helm who does not understand the American market nearly as well as he does the international. Americans don't care about nonsense like a car is too big, what is that, too big?

People buy the X3 not because the X5 is too spacious and that is unappealing, it's because the cost is different and they have to make a financially smart decision for them and what they feel is necessary.
