The GREAT Debate: Is Ordering A Porsche 911 With WOOD A Big MISTAKE?

The GREAT Debate: Is Ordering A Porsche 911 With WOOD A Big MISTAKE?
Automotive interiors are a funny thing with enthusiasts. Some gearheads could care less what the interior space looks like — they want one thing only: speed. Other enthusiasts, like myself, appreciate a well-rounded product with a killer interior.

I mean, I am not going to be commanding my ride from the engine bay, right?

Now I have to admit that I find myself appreciating a nice wood trim in most luxury vehicles. While it seems everyone has a love affair with carbon fiber at the moment, I don’t think I’d ever want that trim in my vehicle. It does nothing for me. While I am a firm believer that certain vehicles are better optioned with certain specifications, I’ve always found myself digging a real oddity.

That would be a Porsche 911 with a full wood interior. Resale be damned, I find it to be a lovely thing.

Having said that, I wager if I told Agent 001 this he’d call me “an old man.” While he opts for PDK and aluminum trim in his personal 911, I’d go for a seven-speed with wood.

What say you, Spies? Is A 911 with WOOD a big MISTAKE?

Nothing wrong with wood at all. For most people a 911 is their dream car. When you buy your dream car you get exactly what you want. Other people's opinions be damned.

Agreed - If you are going to spend that kind of money - why not get what you want?

Wood on the inside? Fine. Wood on the outside? BIG mistake!

I agree with TauronB2G: Get what you're passionate about, and forget what others think. A sure-fire recipe for misery is to try to make everyone think well of you.

I really like it and they must sell because Porsche Exclusive has been doing wood 911 interiors for at least a decade.

Wood steering wheel is a very poor choice.
The wood finish is slippery, very slippery with perspiration on it. Wood scratches and bruises and its hard finish is uncomfortable to grip, especially during long drives.

Very much agree. I loved the wood steering wheel on my Mercedes, but after about 10 seconds, it was like driving with wet soap.

Leather or Alcantara all the way.

That interior is gaudy and tasteless looking. The Kardashians would love it.

I'd rather have a leather trimmed wheel and black interior. An interior should be unobtrusive and NOTcommand the driver's attention which should be on the road.

I am thankful to know this is the great debate. How do Hillary and Trump stand on it?

Is it a big mistake? Yeah, if you order it that way and suddenly remember you didn't want wood in the interior.

It's never a mistake if it's what the buyer wants. End of story.

The internet has empowered people to tell others how to live their lives. If people paid more attention to their own lives, the world would be a happier place.

It depends on intended use. If it's for street use and it gets slippery, you can wear gloves. It might look a little funky but hey, whatever floats your boat.

If you intend to track it, not in a 100 years... That slipperiness will help you total the car pretty quickly, gloved or not.

Think about the use and then about what you want. After that, as others have said, it's your money...

Well the 911 original came with a wooden steering wheel and a wooden dashboard. A lot of cars from the 60s an some from the early 70's had the wood even as sports cars. I think it gives them an old world aura which I personally like. Even luxury cars of today are using less and less wood. I think it is a shame. Jaguars really stood out like you were sitting in an English Pub with all the wood they used to have in their cars. Now look at the new SE and FS. I'm not a fan of the "coal mine" look. When you drive a luxury car or sports car it's also about the experience not just its performance and handling stats. Part of that experience is the interior in which you sit in. When your spending mucho dinero on a vehicle what you sit in should be part of your moneys worth.
