EPA Proposing Banning Conversion Of Vehicles To Racecars Effectively Killing The Grassroots Racing Industry
An EPA proposal to slash greenhouse gas emissions by medium and heavy duty vehicles would also ban the conversion of street cars into racecars, with far-reaching effects on auto racing and the aftermarket parts industry.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association, a trade group representing automotive aftermarket companies, said in a statement late Monday that the EPA’s proposal would also make the sale of certain emissions-related parts used on racecars that were originally street cars illegal.

VERY short sighted and heavy handed.. it appear little thought (as typical) was given to this idea.

Why not make racing a showcase of clean power and fuel efficiency instead?
In other words make the competition spurn innovation.

Very little though, like proposing a ban on firearms because of looks rather actual performance and 3/4 lb drones because of a perceived threat vs actual.

"According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a new gas powered [push] lawn mower produces [as much] volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides emissions air pollution in one hour of operation as 11 new cars each being driven for one hour."

Yes, these cars aren't 'converted race cars' but it puts things into perspective. (And yes many different stats exist on the topic but this one was simple enough)

1. How many converted race cars in the U.S.?

15 million new cars sold every year in the U.S. (average) - proportion converted to race cars? My guess would be less than 1% so let's say 150k.

2. How many lawn mowers?

6m new push mowers + 1.5m new riding mowers sold every year in the U.S.

Does the EPA have bigger fish to fry? (with our tax dollars)

Why is it that the EPA has ANY say in cars that are used solely off road?
