Now, is it me, or does 4.8 seconds to 60 mph seem outrageously quick for an E550!?!?!?

And some people here (I won't mention any names) said the Lexus GS450h would DESTROY the 550i and E550.

Well??? :p

BMW should have supplied a less ridiculously equipped 550i. A $65k model (sport, cold weather, premium sound, navigation) isn't missing anything and would have saved $6k. I'm sure that would have made up the 1 pt difference (though the writers probably would have just miraculously given the M45 a larger edge in "Gotta Have It Factor", which the M45 ridiculously had a 1 pt edge in as well)

Me too. MB claimed like what? 5.6 or 6 seconds? Amazingly fast. I never expected this. The only odd thing is that they criticized handling. When I drove the new E-Class in Europe, I as blown away by how sharp the steering was. The suspension felt sporty. I guess it is true that MB softens up their cars for the US market to appeal to their target market - which ain't really driving enthusiasts.

MB claimed 0-60 in 5.2 but the Germans are always very conservative in timing 0-60

Once again, the Hybrid fuel economy doesn't come even close to the EPA ratings. The Hybrid advantage in fuel economy is much lower than the EPA wants you to believe.

This Comparison is biassed.Unfair.
A V6-hybrid Car up against all other top of the line V8s.
Let the NEW GS460 with 380BHP V8 hit the market, then we can have a bettter comparison test.

BTW,GS450h is more of a competitor to Hybrid or Diesel equiped car.

"And some people here (I won't mention any names) said the Lexus GS450h would DESTROY the 550i and E550".

BMW530i,don't react so quickly.Relax.
I think all these people refered to the top of the line GS.
Which is GS460 V8, and not the GS450h V6.

And I can't see an A6 here. What happened to it.

I thought that prior to this comparison, you Lexus guys were saying that the GS450h will destroy its COMPETITORS: namely the 550i, E550, A6 4.2 and M45.

That's right, you said COMPETITORS. Hmmm....

note the gs' ride was a 9, same as the 5er and the m45.

It doesn't deliver on the Hybrid promise. Or at least on the EPA hybrid promise.

BMW 550i EPA combined rating 20, Lexus 26. Per EPA ratings the Lexus gets MPG 30% higher (awesome) but in real world, it gets MPG only 18% better MPG.

Infiniti M45 Sport combined EPA MPG of 20, Lexus 26, EPA Lexus MPG better by 30%, real worl only 25%.

MB E550 combined EPA rating of 18, Lexus 26. EPA Lexus MPG higher by 44%, real world only 18%.

This is what I have always been saying.

You people are real Number Crunchers EHH ???

I want to let you in on a Little Secret. Grown Men with Families are the Typical Demographic that the GS/5/E/M45 Class is aimed At. 0-60 times are cool Sales Gimmicks but vast majority of these buyers will hardly ever use this Ability to its Max Potential (Also Sit 4 Adults in these cars and then do a 0-60 Test and see which one performs Best) GS450 is essentially 4WD so will perform better in 0-60 in Rainy Snowy Conditions.

Now Please stop relying on C&D figures as if it is Verified by GOD, I find it ODD that Top-Gear and Other Very Highly Regarded Magazines & Shows do not seem to get 0-60 times that are better than that Stated from Manufacturers and yet C&D seem to do it Frequently and with HUGE Differences, It seems Obvious to me that there is Something Very Inacurate about their Timing Methods.

If you are really interested in how a Vehicle Performs, Go Rent One for the Week/Weekend or Test Drive One, Otherwise you are at the Mercy of somebody else's Opinion which quite Frankly can be BOUGHT

European/British magazines get slower times because they accelerate to 62.5 mph not 60 (it does make a difference, from one tenths for a 3-4 second car to .5 second or more for regular cars) Also, they don't use drag strips, therefore launching is harder as there is no "artificial" grip. That is why most all wheel drive cars will give you better real world acceleration numbers, because no one ever drives to work/canyon carving on a rubber drag strip.

JUGNU-

You and Will were arguing that when the E320 BluTec beat out the GS450h in a Mercedes comparison, the GS should be compared to V8s, and now it should be compared to diesels? Ha! And now you're saying they should be comparing it to the 460, when the 460 hasn't even been confirmed for production! The GS450h is the fastest GS available- and I'm pretty sure it's the fastest Lexus (the LS600h isn't out yet).

Will-

"Price/Value
Fuel Consumption: City/Highway
Emissions
Comfort/Luxury"

Price/Value- Infiniti
Comfort/Luxury- Mercedes
Fuel Consumption- All are very close

And since when is emissions relevant to the average consumer? No non-enthusiast cares about that stuff.

E550 Sport is amazingly fast, amazingly good-looking and quite luxurious. I think it's a better value than the GS

S4cabriofox and Will

GS450h is more of an ALL-rounder.A better package.
But after all,it's a V6 coz of the favour of fuel economy. Why don't u understand this simple thing,or are u all so dumb and ignorant.

IT'S A SPORTS LUXURY SEDAN,It'a a perfect balance of Performance with FUEL ECONOMY.

The REAL player would be the GS460.An updated version.

1)IS THE BMW 550i ALL NEW---->NO IT'S AN UPDATED CAR FROM 545I.
2)IS THE MB E550 ALL NEW---->NO IT'S AN UPDATED CAR FROM E500.

THEN WHY NOT waiting for the update of GS V8,
THE GS460.

Again i repeat this list is biassed and unfair.A misleading one.

A GS hybrid is more of a competitor to another hybrid or any other performance oriented fuel cell,AND NOT MAINLY TO A DIESEL WHICH IS FUEL-ECONMY ORIENTED GASOLING ALTERNATIVE.

AFTER ALL GS450H WILL BE STANDING IN THE CATEGORY/LINE/QUE OF HYBRIDS MORE THAN IN THE GS CATEGORY.

IT'S A LIMITED RUN.LIMITED NUMBER OF THIS SPECIALL CAR.

IT'S LIKE COMPARING THE LEXUS SC430 PEBBLE BEACH EDITION TO IT'S NORMAL COMPETIOTRS.

WELLL HAAAAAAAA...GETTING LATE

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE UPCOMING GS460.

WELL SAID JUGNU!

Autospies.com should make it's own magazine. It sure would rock the world!

In my opinion, JUGNU--->THE CARMAN should be the EDITOR. I like your posts. And YES, it was a unfair comparison for the GS450h.

BY THE WAY, I HAVE NEVER, AND WILL NEVER BASE MY OPINIONS ON CAR MAGAZINES LIKE C&D. Cause most of these guys test a car for like, whoa! 1 day? Excuse me you so called CAR MAGAZINE REVIEWERS, BUT when comparing big things like cars, you need to take your time and test it in many different roads and temperatures to see how it PERFORMS.

A MB,BMW,AUDI,LEXUS,nor any other car will ever PERFORM the same as it performs in Beverly Hills, versus THE ARIZONA DESERT. All these car reviewers should TAKE SOME TRAINING IN BASIC CHEMISTRY 101, to learn the basics of the SCIENTIFIC METHOD.

Just remember this, Lexus is just 17 year old teenager with NEARLY the same experience of the CREEPY OLD ANCESTORS, the BMW, and MB.

This is not for you LEXUS HATERS, THIS IS FOR BMW, MB, and Audi ONLY. "Be aware, Lexus is comming right behind you, and is comming real-FAST."

non-logical, if u are 39 (which i seriously doubt), why do u act like a 10year old???

And if you really want to hear about FWD audis, ill tell u that some people can afford an AWD and neither can they afford the extra liter of fuel it uses.
Sorry if everyone doesnt have money like u do, and has to pay 2 times more for fuel.

U hate audi for your own reason, but i dont understand why u make up some stupid lies, unless u never drove a car at all.

I never drove the M45, but I did drive the other 3 and thats exactly how i would rank them, although lexus is not by any means a bad car.
Still dont like the fact that its a hybrid V6, its as dumb as that Audi Q7 4.2 hybrid concept.
Hybrids are stupid, they are not sporty, and they dont save a reasonable amount of fuel... i dont get it
The GS would be a lot better with a 2.2diesel.

CarNut,....... I agree completely.

GS 450h just seems kind of pointless when the GS 460 is going to be released. There isn't enough difference between them to warrant such a similar model which is heavier, but has a little bit better fuel efficiency, it is ALSO a smaller engine, less horsepower, and probably just as expensive, if not, then slightly less. GS 460 seems like the less complicated, sportier choice. More power, fuel efficiency MAYBE a little worse, less complicated, less heavy, prob around same price. Can anybody definitively prove that the GS 450h is going to save the environment? This is coming from a guy who really likes Lexus too.

WOW,people this is Sports Sedan comparison
this is the battle between BMW Vs Infiniti
not BMW Vs Lexus
Lexus already got their name as silky smooth nice car, Lexus has no sports in them
but recent years, Infiniti really step up into the game with BMW, and their cars are selling in great numbers
here, all the lexus loves getting upset, why???
let Infiniti and BMW fight for this arena
and MB and Lexus fight for something else

i dont think age makes any difference, you get a bunch of guys together fighting over who makes the best cars on categories that are mostly opinionated, and you all sound 12-16 yrs old. and btw b4 i get flamed im 23 and no exclusion to this law. imo i think the mb is best(not only because i work for DCX), it is the fastest. i know alot of other cars are faster, but if i had to pick a car in this category it would be the e class.
