#GIMS: Lexus Bringing A Hybridized LC500 To Geneva - Will This Be The Sleeper Of The Bunch?

We were taken aback by Lexus's stunning LC500 coupe at the Detroit Motor Show, and we knew it was only a matter of time before the Japanese firm would install a hybrid powertrain into its striking sports car

Now Lexus has confirmed the LC500h will make its production-ready debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next month. The Mercedes SL rival is said to be equipped with a "next-generation hybrid powertrain", called the 'Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System'.

Although details of the hybrid system are still under wraps, it's likely that the LC500h will receive an adaptation of the 3.5-litre V6 unit found in the latest RX, with an electric motor and battery pack boosting performance and efficiency.

We don't know if it will match the LC500's naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 for performance. That car manages 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds thanks to a 467bhp output, with drive hitting the rear wheels through a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2+2 doesn't have a confirmed launch date or starting price, but we're led to believe customers can place their order towards the end of this year.

The LC500h will be the keeper of the range of models by far. This car is good business in every way the truly horrible SC wasn't.

The LC500 base price is 90K (MT estimate). The LC500h will probably add 10K. I doubt it will have many takers.

From what I'm hearing, the biggest enemy for the LC, both hybrid and not, might be weight. From what I'm hearing, this car will be over 4000 lbs, and the hybrid version may just add additional heft. Yes, the S550 coupe weighs 4700 lbs, but it is also 10 inches longer, has a real useable rear seat and has 4Matic.
