#GIMS: If The LF-FC Actually Becomes The Next LS Will Your Opinion Of Lexus Be Changed Forever?

Lexus will display its LF-FC luxury saloon concept at the Geneva motor show, following its international debut at the Tokyo motor show in October 2015.

Described as a glimpse into the firm’s design and technology direction for a future flagship model, it’s the clearest indication yet of what we can expect from the next-generation LS range-topper.

At 5300mm long, 2000mm wide and 1410mm high, it shades even the long-wheelbase version of the current car by 120mm in length, while it’s also a significant 125mm wider and a sleek 71mm lower.

In my opinion, this car's front and rear end are seriously hideous... as well as the parts of the profile in which you can see that front and rear. Yech. If they cleaned that up, it would be a respectably attractive car. I'm indifferent about the interior -- it's not hideous, which is awesome for Lexus, but I don't resonate with it.

Does it change my opinion of Lexus forever? Who writes that stuff? I mean, seriously!

There is something desperately wrong with Toyota designers. The front and back ends of this visual abortion incorporate every automotive design cliche that has surfaced in last 10 years. I'm not a Lexus hater—I'm just a hater of stupid fu*king styling ideas. This (along with the new Prius) tops them all. The Pontiac Aztek gets better looking with every new Lexus/Toyota that presents itself.

Forever lost...

Typical Lexus... Cow Catcher Grill & suspect proportions. Although, I must admit the current LS is nicely proportionate... Save the stupid grill & sub-quality Cadillac interior. WTF is up with these ridiculous grills. Why would anyone pay for something so hideous? Plus they drive like a 30 year old sofa... DUHHHHH!!!

The Japanese sense of aesthetics is so very different from our own. You see it when in Japan in an electronics store. Notwithstanding that this car looks like a refugee from a Michael Bay film, I would give it a serious look if the performance specs merit (0-60, torque, g's on the slalom, breaking, decibels). I actually like the interior.

As for changing my opinion forever? Please.....

If everyone feels the same way, who's buying all their cars? It's not like Lexus has fire sales, they sell 250K+ cars a year...right on the heels of BMW and MB.

wileyz: You're right that Lexus has the sales numbers, and they're very respectable numbers, too. But their designs are grotesque! I wonder how many people buy a Lex because they like the looks, or in spite of the look.

Like BMW's "can't get it behind us quickly enough" Flame Surface era, in which they never admitted they goofed, big time, I wonder how long it'll be until Lex dumps these foul looking designs. BTW, BMW's unit sales were also strong during the widely maligned Flame Surface era, and now that it's over, there are very few people arguing that they were classic designs that'll stand the test of time.

Again - look at what is actually selling - mostly the entry level stuff - like the ES and the RX - they sell very few LS cars anymore. ANd when the ones that do sell are below $40,000 - they may be "premium" cars - but are not luxury cars as well. Those who buy the ES are essentially buying the name - because they can get a better equipped Avalon for less money.

Given how faithfully they did the LC and just how much excitement it has produced, making the LFFC faithfully into the new LS would be a master stroke.

Lexus is trying very hard NOT to be BMW or Mercedes and I think in the long run it will work for them. I happen to like the LFFC the more I see it.

Sorry - but NO - I would not see a good future for the car. This is supposed to be the Lexus top of the line Luxury car - not a cartoon character car.

TO be fair - Lexus is NOT a Luxury car manufacturer any more than BMW or AUDI - they might be "premium" manufacturers - but their majority of sales are with cars that do not fall into the "Luxury" category. THe two big sellers for Lexus are two converted Toyota cars - the Es3xx which is an Avalon - and the RX3xx which is a Rav4 - their Sports cars sell poorly - and the LS is too long in the tooth to sell well. So- basically - they are the Japanese BUICK. The Luxury cars of BMW and AUDI (7 series - A8) simply do not compete well with other Luxury sedans in that category.

Now - the question is - with that COW CATCHER grill - how many passenger rail cars can a Lexus tow on the railroad tracks? Until they do away with that - they won't see me near them

First - I never mentioned my Mercedes - Lexus does not make a 12 Cylinder so I cannot compare them. The LS has been Bland - has had poor interior room compared to others in its category (Especially in the rear) - and has nothing special about its ride - handling - or features - that makes ME care for it. Now - ADD that HIDEOUS cow catcher grill - and cartoon like styling - and it is even less of what I would consider.

The typical Lexus LS customer is probably going to be put off by that styling nonsense as well - in a class where Elegance is what is wanted. AND as far as Old geezers - seems to me that more of that class of car are bought by them - than by young thugs. Again - it appears to be another example of a company abandoning their traditional buyer (Older people for the LS) - and forgetting that young ones don't buy these bigger cars as often.

Tone down the front end and completely change the rear end and it wouldn't be bad at all. As far as changing my opinion, yes it would but not necessarily for the better.

No, it won't change my mind. Their designs are overwrought and desperate, no longer tasteful. Dont' get me wrong, there are some elements that are attractive, gorgeous actually (LC500 front-end), but as a whole, they can be a bit much.

It does seem, however, that they are moving away from the mixture of garish and bland in the same car (i.e., IS and GS).

BTW, I think the RC already looks like yesterday's news. That's what trendy designs do.
