SPY SHOT: Upcoming Baby X- BMW X1

BMW has kicked off a top secret plan for a baby SUV – the X1 – to take on Toyota's Rav4. The junior 'X' model will mix a 1-series footprint with the X3's four-wheel drive. The four-seat X1 will run four- and six-cylinder engines, and arrive in showrooms in 2010.

I haven't heard any plans for this, but I'm sure BMW will copy Audi's Q3 idea and come up with a car of this size.

You can say that the Q5 is copying the X3, and even though they're in the same class, who in their right mind would want to copy the X3?

Will-

WHAT??

The Dodge Caliber is an eco-hatch! The Q3 and X1 (if they come out) will be mini-luxury-sport utes!

Where did that idea come from?

you made me create a sign up for this site...lol , very interesting comments through few articles I've read. I assume that you have Lexus??? or not. I think BMW would bring this 1 series if 3 series doesn't keep up with their sales for 2007-08. not that it will make me want to get it... personally, I think 1 series is not appealing at all. Only BMW's that I might get next would be either the new M3 with V8 at last or 760li. I am getting tired of my LS430, plus it will be out modeled on Oct 20th.

Hold on: Take on the Rav4. Isn't the new Rav4 the same size as the X3??? Also why does BMW need to take on Toyota?

tifosi and kart 1

The reason why BMW would rather take on toyota than range rover is that the potential volumes are much greater. They can sell alot more of an X1 than they can an X7 (and therefore make more money). Personally I'd love to see both! (X1, X3, X5, X6 and X7... heh heh)

kart1,

The X3 wants to distinguish itself from being the RAV4's category so they make X1. The new Rav4 has grown a bit. But the real issue here is BMW is copying Toyota. Not the other way around.

All those arguements in this site about Lexus copied BMW, which brand is better, etc., etc., So who wins the arguements now? I think its Toyota/Lexus, the hands down winner.

Will, DaimlerChrysler invented the US's first minivan.
