Google Self Driving Car Crashes Into Bus After Misjudging Driver Intent

Alphabet Inc's  Google said on Monday it bears some responsibility after one of its self-driving cars struck a municipal bus in a minor crash earlier this month.

The crash may be the first case of one of its autonomous cars hitting another vehicle and making an error. The Mountain View, California-based Internet search leader and tech firm said it updated its software after the crash to avoid future incidents.

In a Feb. 23 report filed with California regulators, Google said the crash took place in Mountain View on Feb. 14 when a self-driving Lexus RX450h sought to get around some sandbags in a wide lane.

Hmmmm....should of used a Benz, between the distronic plus, collision prevention assist, and pre safe brake, one of those systems would of picked up on a big a**bus and said hey we should probably stop the car LOL

The story is lacking some detail. If the Google car crossed the center-line, expecting the bus to yield, it's completely in the wrong. I know at least two people that flunked their driver's test because they crossed the line and didn't yield to an oncoming vehicle. That line is there for a reason. You can't cross it unless the way is completely clear. It belongs to the opposite direction traffic, and you don't have the right to enter it if someone else is there.

It's amazing how many drivers think they can do this at any time, regardless of oncoming traffic...
