IF This Is A Sign Of BMWs To Come Are You IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?
For those of you not in the loop, today marked BMW's 100th birthday. As we've noted with other automakers celebrating their centennial, it's a HUGE achievement. You must remember, producing automobiles is a super capital intensive line of work.
Our hats are off to you, BMW! To another 100!
BMW VISION NEXT 100
Of course the celebration looked into the past, but what about the future? The Bavarians didn't want to let your imagination run wild, therefore it showed off what it's calling the BMW VISION NEXT 100. It's an interesting take on what a BMW
could
be, that's for sure.
But we want to know:
IF this is a sign of BMW's future, are you IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?
What say you, Spies?

it's a truly horrible car. Looks cartoonish. If this is what's coming, they are not going to be around for the next 100th birthday...

Gee - and they even got the double front grill of the EDSEL on it.
How much worse could they make it look = not much!

BMW meets Tron. That "Light Cycle" look was cool... in 1982.

Time for BMW to hire some Italian designers. This techie style is best left for other brands down the food chain. A BMW should be elegantly muscular and expensive looking.

Those strange doors never take weather into account. Ya know, it rains sometimes!

I think it previews some great new styling cues that will be debuting soon. The lights especially are amazing.

The next 100 years. Who knows. People will probably be riding in "tube vehicles" as in movie "Logan's Run." Over 50 years old with medical conditions, send the Sandman to blast them away. Cities like EPCOT.

I love it. The naysayers must be tasteless, and clueless. But mostly tasteless.

Tough assignment... Most of us take a while to adapt to the 'new' version of anything so trying to stretch that 10 to 20 generations is not easy to do, let alone to accept.
I'm going to split my thoughts into three buckets. First, the overall impression certainly is futuristic but too bulky to be sexy.
However, there are some sweet design elements like the nose. In many ways, this looks like an extension of the Ford GT. (Again, first impressions...)
Finally, there are many throwback concepts like covered wheels that are interesting. We've come to worship wheels and tires so this is one of those elements that certainly challenges perception. But I try to keep an open mind here.
