#NYIAS: CONFIRMED! Mazda To "Blow The Lid Off" The NY Auto Show With An All-New Model — What Could It Be?

#NYIAS: CONFIRMED! Mazda To
When the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata debuted, we noticed that it had only been offered with a soft top. While this doesn't sound too peculiar considering it is a "purist's choice," what did make it weird was that the last-gen Miata featured a folding hard top.

Why bail on it now?

It seems that the time may have come for a more luxurious and equipped Miata to debut, though. That's because Mazda has circulated an invitation for the 2016 New York Auto Show (NYIAS).

On it the company requests the attendance of media outlets to help the Japanese manufacturer "blow the lid off at the New York Auto Show." We see what you did there, Mazda!

According to reports the all-new hard top convertible is expected to benefit from lighter components as the last-gen Miata hard top was a bit too bulky. Expect the hard top Miata to go for a couple thousand dollars over the currently existing flagship variant.

...Although the car maker refrains from giving any more information, Autocar expects this new model to be a hard-top version of the current MX-5, called the MX-5 Roadster Coupé.

The Mk4 MX-5 has been with us in soft-top guise for about a year, so it makes sense for the hard-top alternative to arrive now. If it is indeed this car, we already have a pretty good idea of what it’ll be like thanks to information given to us by Mazda late last year...

Unless it comes with 300 horsepower as an option, it will will still only appeal to nail girls and drinkers of sweet flavored martinis.

LOL

There's plenty of folks who are buying them and are enthusiasts. It just wouldn't be my first choice or on any list I'd ever compile. Mostly because I don't fit but also because I'd rather get something else for what they're charging these days...

Have you EVER bothered to check how dismal Miata sales are? The truly dismal sales failures known as the BRZ/FRS sold DOUBLE the volume of the Miata Miata last year.

More horsepower as an option would double sales. Leaving sales on the table because Mazda is too stupid/stubborn to offer those who want it more horsepower is asinine.

At the track, the Miata is a butter knife in the knife fight.
