Is Bentley's Vision Of The Future Of Luxury The Same As Yours?
Look closely at this interior image created by Bentley – can you see any provision for a driver?

This concept, titled ‘The Future of Luxury’, has been created by Bentley to express how a cabin of the future may look. For those who accuse the British-based manufacturer of looking to the past to influence its future, this image is a striking riposte.

Speaking to evo at a small event in London, Director of Design Stefan Sielaff said that the interior concept would be less of a surprise to those Bentley owners who already use chauffeurs; ‘after all, perhaps we invented the concept of autonomous driving’.

SO - in essence - autonomous vehicle technology is simply a way for rich people to get out of having to pay for Chauffeurs!

But as I said in another thread " I will give in to the driverless car phenomenon when they pry my cold dead hand from the steering wheel of my car!"

Don't be silly Tom. If anything, autonomous technology will allow older gentlemen like yourself to stay behind the wheel even longer.

gee - @Runninglogan1" - I thought that the concept of autonomous vehicles was NOT to have me behind the wheel at all! If You look at that Bentley interior - the seats are actually facing the wrong way for anyone to actually be able to drive it.

Do lap-dancing whores come with the new Bentleys? Because I'm seeing two lap dance sofas.

The real question NOBODY here has addressed about autonomous cars - is - what features in an autonomous car will be required to make you forget that the car will not exceed the speed limit at all - and likely will also accelerate at a leisurely pace - and actually slow down in curves and turns? Will softer leather and lusher surroundings be enough to make up for the DEATH of spirited driving?

And - why would you purchase a car with upgraded engines - when it will REFUSE to go any faster or accelerate and quicker than the base engine? ONCE Lawmakers realize this - that they can actually force you to obey the speed limits and drive slowly - do you think they will even ALLOW higher powered versions of cars where the autonomous driving is only an OPTION - or will they REQUIRE it to enforce speed limits for instance? THis will be a boon to the Insurance industry - although it also means reduced funds for local governments with no more speeding tickets. ANd the loss of the very profitable higher spec'ed versions of cars will also cause problems for car manufacturers. Will this be "1984" only later?
