#NYIAS: Mercedes-AMG's G65 Makes Itself Home In The Big Apple — Would You Plonk Down Over $200 LARGE For THIS?
Mercedes-Benz's G-Class sport-utility vehicle has been sought after for what feels like eons. Although it was originally produced for military purposes, civilians have embraced it with open arms.
Especially Hollywood A-listers and professional athletes.
2016 New York Auto Show
While we've been happy to see Mercedes-AMG provide the market with a G55 and a G63, there has yet to be a V12-equipped G-Class. Well, that changes with the Mercedes-AMG G65.
On offer for $217.900*, there's no question that you'll be getting the baddest G-Class on the market. The question that really remains is whether or not you
really
want one with the latest selections on offer.
*This price does not include title, taxes and fees.
The Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography, Bentley Bentayga and BMW X5M come to mind.
That said, take a look at 001's snaps from the 2016 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) and weigh in.

Wow, that's almost $100K more than the G63 AMG. So, basically, you can get a G63 AMG when you want to play Kardashian for a day, and you can get an XC90 Excellence when you just want to be a extravagant soccer mom.

Maybe if it was the 6 x 6. The G65 isn't any faster or more capable, there's no need.

Nope. I'm way NOT into boxy or trucky. I prefer SUVs with car-like lines, like the Porsche Macan and Cayenne, or Audi Q5.

If it's gaudy bling you're after, this will do nicely.
If you're looking for Mercedes' best SUV, that is the GL.
I've driven several Gs and they have been OK for a while but definitely not to own. They are an experience like seeing a wardrobe malfunction on a "bae" to end all "baes" and then to have that exact same wardrobe malfunction happen the same way over and over. The trick gets stale fast.
Spending time with a G quickly reveals this was designed decades ago and that it's an old tart with lots of make up slathered on.

I see a lot of these on the road around where I live, and I like to see them, but I always question, why buy this over a GLS or Range Rover, or even an X5M, GLE AMG, or Range Rover Sport SVR. All are better and mover modern for the price.

Why did people continue to buy the Land Rover Defender? 100% style consideration and nothing else.

Or wait two years and pick one up for 1/3 the price.
