VIDEO SHOOTOUT: BMW M4 vs Chevrolet Camaro SS, Because Somebody Had To Do It

The new Camaro SS is arguably way better than the previous model, but is this enough to compete with some of the best out of Europe, say the BMW M4?

On paper, these two are neck-to-neck in almost every comparable figure - bar the price, with the M4 costing $81k and the Camaro SS going for $46k as tested here by Head2Head - base prices start at $63,500 for the BMW and $37,295 for the Chevy in 1SS trim.

The Camaro is simply a very well done product. Like the Mustang, there isn't a loser in the entire range.

NOT A FAN OF EITHER...BUT I WOULD BUY AMERICAN over KRAUT POS! especially BMW and AUDI. BMW/AUDI BUYERS THINK KRAUT SHIT SMELLS BETTER, I GUESS!

And even though a Camaro SS can out do a BMW M4, automotive snobbery prevents people from looking at the facts objectively. Let's not mention that the Camaro looks lot hotter than the BMW as well.

These days money doesn't buy you exclusivity in the performance space.

Even the Tesla Model 3's performance... I was reading a terrible article on the car where they pointed out that it has sub-six-second 0-60 acceleration, and compared that with — in a positive way!! — with a 1990s BMW M3.

As in "wow this thing is so fast, that's 1990s M3 acceleration."

Yeah great it's also 2013 V-6 Toyota Camry acceleration.

Mustangs, Camaros, etc. are so high-performance these days that getting an M3 or M4 to boast about how fast it is, seems to be missing the point of the car. You get it for the prestige of an "M4" and pay a cool $30-40k for that prestige. Even more if you count the total cost of ownership, depreciation, etc.

Good review video that shows spending lots more money doesn't give you more but may give you LESS.

Thanks for the incredible video comparison of these iconic super cars. Undoubtedly, both are magnificent machines in their own rights, but I would always prefer a cabrio version of either of these. However, should you opt for a roadster, look for a convertible that can effectively deal with the cabin turbulence without running the hassle of installing a Windblox windscreen to tackle the wind buffeting and gust.

there will always be cheaper alternatives to better cars. the M4 is in fact a better car than the camaro. the materials feel nicer, the leather softer, and the m4 was still the faster car around the track over the camaro and this was the manual transmission not the DCT which would have had an even greater lead over the camaro.
when you factor in the costs, of course the camaro is a better buy, but people dont always want the cheaper alternatives.
the EVO, STI, mustang , camaro were always good alternatives to the m4.
the nissan gtr/ zo6 is a great alternative to a lambo/ ferrari
the genesis, ls460 is another example of being as capable of the germans. this motor trend review completely sh*ts on the bmw, but it does forget that MOST people would want the M4 over the camaro if they were priced identically. just as anyone in their right mind would choose an S550 over an equus or ls460 for the same $.
I love camaro's,vettes, mustangs - if the corvette was a 2+2 id take it over the m4, the camaro in my humble opinion does not look better than an M4.
