Regulators Not Concerned If Additional Recalls Bankrupt Takata - Should They Be?
The chief U.S. auto-safety agency says it won’t take Takata Corp.’s financial viability into account when it decides whether to expand further the largest-ever auto-safety recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will focus solely on safety, as it must under U.S. law, the agency said in a statement Thursday.

NHTSA is reviewing the findings of three investigations into Takata’s airbag ruptures while the recalls are under way, it said. Those probes attempted to determine the root cause of the airbag failures, and the review could be the basis for future decisions related to the recalls.

No - it is NOT Takata that is responsible to them for the fix - it is the vehicle manufacturer. While Takata may have produced the igniters - The Vehicle Manufacturers will be on line to foot the bill - if Takata goes belly up. Takata may have an agreement with the manufacturers regarding these problems - but that would be between the Manufacturer and Takata alone - and the Manufacturer still must bring their cars into compliance regardless. The biggest customers for the bad igniters are Toyota - Honda - and Dodge (FCA) - and they could be on the hook if Takata does not survive.

What idiocy! Takata made the bad product. The manufacturers bought the product in good faith. Takata knowingly sold bad products in bad faith to the manufacturers. Takata is 100% responsible.

Yes, the manufacturers must bring their cars into compliance, but 100% of their financial loss is 100% the cause and responsibility of Takata.

I say bankrupt the bastards and kill their entire worldwide operation in retaliation.
