Tesla BLOWS AWAY Expectations, Hand Raisers Above Quarter MILLION! How Much MORE Will The List Grow?

Tesla BLOWS AWAY Expectations, Hand Raisers Above Quarter MILLION! How Much MORE Will The List Grow?
Well done, Tesla. Well done, indeed.

As of this past Saturday morning, Tesla's Elon Musk tweeted that the electric vehicle manufacturer had surpassed the 250,000 mark for hand raisers that slapped down a refundable $1,000 deposit for a Tesla Model 3. I may be out of line here but I am pretty confident that this much interest has NEVER been seen before in the automotive industry.

At least definitely not that I can recall.

What makes this even more interesting is how Musk and his staff completely underestimated the demand that would break out over the Model 3. In a tweet he responded to a user's question about how much were they expecting and Musk said about one-quarter to one-half of the 250k+ response the company received.

Obviously this is good, and potentially bad, news for Tesla. Good because the company clearly has demand for its all-new Model 3. Bad, because now it has to build them all.

So, now what?

Anyone care to take a guess as to how much further the list will grow? Can it top the 300,000 mark?

The glass-roof on the Model S is a $1,500 upgrade. I can't imagine it will be much more than that. (When I first saw the amazing roof on the Model S, I was worried it would be a $5k upgrade and out of my budget). They also already have the experience with the Model X on working with very large pieces of glass.

However, you may be right about the tax incentives. I think only 50,000 or so Model 3 owners will still qualify unless the government extends the number of vehicles that qualify beyond 200,000. Probably another 100,000 will get a partial rebate since it takes 3 quarters to fully phase out after Tesla sells 200k cars in the US.
