Rumor Mill: Peugeot-Citroen Ready To Announce Plan Of Challenging BMW In The US

We in America are quite uneducated in the world of French cars. We got a few here in the past, but the last French cars we got were a couple of Peugeots that the brand stopped selling here in 1991. Brands like Peugeot and Citroen have stayed away from America ever since. However, it’s possible that they could come to the US quite soon with the luxury sub-brand, DS.

Citroen has been talking about breaking its DS brand off into its own premium brand since 2014, but didn’t officially launch DS cars until this year in China. According to Automotive News Europe, DS CEO Yves Bonnefont claimed back in 2015 that the DS brand would be coming to America eventually. However, there has been no official word of the DS brand making its way here and if it does make it here we have no idea when it will happen.

P-C has no identity in America, no distribution channel, no manufacturing, and no sense of what it costs and takes to be successful in America. They might as well dig a hole, put all their money in it and set it afire then take on BMW in America. That way it will be over quickly and they can get on with their lives.

I thought KIA was a joke, and Hyundai had no chance here either.

That was 25 years ago and 25 years from now the Chinese will own the automotive hub of the world. PSA simply does not have the luxury of time that H/K enjoyed. They are a failing automaker desperately looking for volume.

KIA and Hyundai came in at the low price end of the market with an extremely low cost basis/wages including Korean government subsidies. P-C is rumored to take on a well entrenched premium price brand with high cost basis/wages and little or no support from French government.

Laughable! Citroen doesn't challenge BMW in Europe, so why do they think they can challenge BMW here? Hell, give the garbage quality of PSA products, they don't even compete with mainstream products.

This is sheer idiocy.

Yes but for the people who feel there are enough German luxury cars etc. on planet earth to make you want to vomit German Teutonic saliva this is a welcome breath of fresh air. The French are quirky but charming. If they can inject that bit of charm into their cars even if they don't have the perfect specs of the Germans they might just sell. They just have to be reliable and have enough rear leg room. That's the key.

I love the quirky looks and incredibly smooth ride of the classic Citroens. It will be nice to see this marque on our shores for the first time in my lifetime.
