Ford Defies Trump And UAW With New Small Car Plant In Mexico

Ford said today it will invest $1.6 billion to build a new plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, that will be manufacturing small cars by 2018, making it the latest automaker to expand its presence there.

Ford said construction of the new plant will begin this summer. It expects to begin producing cars there in 2018. Ford's investment in Mexico will create more than 2,800 jobs by 2020, delivering a blow to the UAW, which pushed for higher wages in its contract talks with the automaker last year, and prompted a swift reaction from the union

Thank Bill Clinton and the Dimocrat Party for pushing through NAFTA which put the nails into the American coffin of employment.

That sucking sound you hear is the sound of NAFTA sucking American jobs and manufacturing plants out of America. Shame on Ford and other outsourcing companies!

Its all about business. Trump is calling for them to build here, but the current Gubment does nothing to keep companies from staying here. The highest biz taxes in the industrialized world, plus the UAW, it makes a lot of sense to go south of the border. If I'm not mistaken, 47% of Revenue comes from Individuals and 11% of Tax Revenue comes from Business taxes... how about eliminate Biz taxes completely as an incentive to hire more Americans. They get the lower rate once they move production here and hire Americans, a sliding scale. The more "citizens" they hire, the lower their rate. If they're temporary, no go, only full time. Don't you think companies all over the world would flock here? Oh, and these new plants or mfg. goes into RTW states, NO UAW. THIS current Gov't could care less. I'm not necessarily a Trump voter, but I like a lot of what he's saying, especially the remuneration.

Funny that Nissan builds a plant here in America to not only supply tha American market, but to export from here to other markets like China as well, so if they can afford it, why can't we?

Did Ford say they were pulling out of the US ? No, they are choosing to build where it's most cost effective. I'm sure that as a businessman who's been bankrupt several times heir Trunp will understand that. It occurs to me that Ford was the only major Us automaker that didn't take bailout money so obviously that business knows what's it's doing a little better than Trump. Furthermore I'm almost sure Trump doesn't want anyone telling how to run his business. So he needs to stfu.
Deboost me at your will.

Small cars are a better business case for Mexico. Pickups, crossovers, and SUVs are a better business case for the USA/Canada. It really is that simple.

Besides, NAFTA means US production = Mexican production = Canadian production.

GM has 14 factories and 15,000 employees in Mexico, where it builds cars such as the Chevy Aveo, the Cadillac SRX, Sonic, Silverado Crew Cab truck, as well as engines and transmissions for many cars and trucks. In 2013, GM made 647,000 vehicles in the country.

In 2015, Mexico's production has more than doubled to 3.2 million units, or 19% of the 16.9 million industry total. It came at the expense of the U.S., which dipped to 11.4 million units, or 67%; and Canada, which was down to 2.4 million, or 14%.
