RUMOR: Mercedes-Benz Plotting A LARGE, Four-Door S-Class Coupe

RUMOR: Mercedes-Benz Plotting A LARGE, Four-Door S-Class Coupe
Years ago when Mercedes-Benz debuted the CLS-Class it was a gamechanger. Not only because, at first, it didn't seem to make sense, but also because it was a staggeringly good looking German product.

It didn't boast one hint of being teutonic. It had swooping lines and a sensual shape that demanded attention. In other words, we loved it.

Though the second-gen product is an admirable effort, it falls short of the first-gen car that was special. Seems that we're not the only ones who noticed as there's word on the street that the three-pointed star is working on a four-door S-Class coupe.

Is this a genius idea?

According to sources, we will not see a four-door S-Class coupe with this generation. We'll have to wait until the all-new S arrives. That means a four-door coupe variant is not to be expected until 2020.

The name for this all-new Benz? The SEC-Class.

**Read MORE about this all-new, rumored about Mercedes, below!

Conservative estimates peg the SEC at 15,000 units a year. With the all-new S-class labelled W223 due to see the light of day in late 2020 as a 2021 model, it makes no sense to derive the four-door coupe from the current vintage of S-class. Instead, we expect a launch in early 2021 as part of the next generation family.

Of course there are - the Coupe simply being a car with doors that do not have framed windows - and they were regularly made in the USA in the 50's and 60's

The windows came together from the two side doors with a gasket on one of the windows.

I happen to think the current CLS looks infinitely better than the truly hideous first one. There really isn't any reason why Mercedes shouldn't do a S Class 4-door coupe (sic).

Given that they renamed their SUVs to better coincide with their sedans' naming scheme, why not rename the CLS the CLE and give the CLS name to the big coupe?
