Is Audi About To REALLY Piss Off Porsche With A Boxster Killer? AutoBild Says Yah vol.
Seldom has there been a loving relationship between Audi and Porsche.

And things won't get better if Project PO455 is really in the works.

That's the code name for the Boxster challenger to be called the R6 from Audi.

Here are the first photoshops from our friends at AutoBild.de.

Let us know if you think the idea is a winner.

And if it looks like this, which car is better looking (Boxster or R6) and which would YOU buy if you were in market for a sportscar in the range?

A better move would be to give Porsche a "922" below the 718 because the volume would likely be more for VWAG if the car had a Porsche emblem on it and also more likely to transact at a higher price because of said emblem.

Although it could not really be a Boxter killer I agree with MDarringer! They should have proceeded with the smaller sports car that they were working on a year or so back. Heck they could get $40k+ for something with the performance of the Miata.

The audi looks cool but I would still take the nex boxster...it's really classy!

Well now that Porsche in my opinion has ruined the Boxster/Cayman with it's awful new turbo fours I hope that Audi goes ahead with this and brings us more of those turbo fives engines. Compared to the new flat fours they sound great. The flat fours in the Boxster Cayman sound terrible and have the performance characteristic of a diesel. There is no joy in revving them now. All the power is a bottom end. They may offer more power and better fuel economy than the previous flat NA sixes. However they are not sports car engines. I hope Audi show them up.

The winner is definitely the Boxster, maybe I’m a bit biased here. But, the R6 definitely looks killer with its ultra-futuristic design, especially its sleek head and tail lights! All in all, the R6 is an aggressive beast to look at with its “get outta the way” stance. But I, for one, wouldn’t drive it without an additional wind deflector like the BackBlade wind blocker or something mounted to tackle the turbulence on high-speed cruises.

Good move to offer an alternative with new design direction under different brand. Porsche brand design is boxed into a corner which they cannot get out of, not bad but very limiting.

And ironically, the last time Porsche was boxed in the truly delightful 944 resulted. Granted the 944 is easily outdone by modern cars, but from what I understand from people who where there when it arrived and from my own experiences driving them, it was a great car.

I do not understand WHY VW would spend the money and the time to compete with itself - especially when they already have a major money problem. Yes - I realize that making a few expensive cars that are more profitable might help them but I don't see them selling enough of these cars to make any real difference. Eventually VW is going to have to reduce the redundancy in its lineups - to reduce the number of platforms they have to support.

If you're going to use a German word in your header, at least spell it correctly.

Jawohl, not Yah vol.

Sheesh, I don't even speak German and I knew better.

Maybe they are planning ahead to have the option to spin off or sell Porsche, to pay their dieselgate bills.

All aluminum now, CF later?

I say yes, but only with an alloy block.

I kind of like the rear end but the Boxter is way better looking in the front end.
